Welcome to the Joke A Day Forums!
Ray Owens, creator of JokeADay.com and the mastermind behind the AOL.exe virus, started this forum back in January 2002. At the time no one imagined it would still be here nearly 20 years later. There have been a lot of changes over the years and the JokeADay.com website is long gone but the JAD Forums live on.
Here's some things expected of you if you decide to register:
INTRODUCE YOURSELF. Tell us a little bit about yourself. We're not looking for confidential information, just things like, "What do you do?" Are ya married? Single? Got any kids? Whereabouts do you live? How did you find the Joke A Day forums?
PARTICIPATE . What are your thoughts on this? What's your opinion on that? Have you not seen your pet peeve addressed here? Speak UP! This place is designed to be an exchange of ideas.
Hang out with us. Maybe you're the strong silent type that doesn't have a lot to say. Cool. But, if you're going to register, I suggest you sign on at LEAST once a week to catch up with the goings on.
That's not too much to ask for a discussion board, is it?
MAKE YOUR TOPIC HEADLINE APPROPRIATE. When you glance at a topic headline, you ought to have a pretty good idea as to what that topic is going to be about. Bad Topic Headline: "THIS IS REALLY COOL!" Good Topic Headline: "Is anyone having problems getting to the secure server?"
STAY ON TOPIC. While you will see instances of severe topic drift, the Forum Goddesses are good at deleting posts that are completely off topic. And while we're at it, if all you have to say is "Yeah, me too!" then don't. This kind of flies in the face of the Don't Lurk instructions above, but you surely can't agree with everyone on everything.
NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. The above paragraph kind of leads into this topic. Since you're not going to agree with everyone on everything, then when you disagree, be civil about it. You have permission and encouragement to be in someone's face, as long as it doesn't get nasty in public. (Take it to email if you want.) But disagree with style. Humor. AND GOOD SPELLING ALWAYS HELPS.
If you plan to lurk, flame, or be stupid, don't bother registering. If you plan to participate, disagree with style, and let everyone know you're the coolest thing since sliced bread, Welcome.
