I just got a new set of Phonaks with the blue tooth features. I love the telephone part!! The only things I miss from my old Jabra headset are the Jabra used to announce the name or number of the caller and it used to read my text messages.

Got my second dose of the vaccine (Moderna) on Friday. Other than a sore arm (which I had the first time too), I feel fine.

My current job is the absolute worst job I've ever had. My gut told me to turn it down when it was first offered but I accepted it because I was being forced out of Pru. I've tried to make the best of it, but, I've been completely miserable. Most days, I leave work feeling so stressed that my chest hurts. More than once, it hurt bad enough to make me seriously consider going to the hospital. I was recently given a promotion only to realize the promotion was to the position I was originally hired at. My recruiter pulled a shitty on me and my final onboarding papers had me brought on at a lower position.
Back in January, I set a goal of getting myself another full time permanent job before my 40th birthday, next January. Everything I've been called about has been some sort of short term project with another offshore agency. I refuse to leave a long term gig, even if it's killing me, for a short term gig.
Today, I got the offer I've been waiting for. 6 months temp to perm, which I expected, with a much better salary. It's not great, but, I've been stuck at the same pay rate since I started in IT. Thanks to inflation, I've actually lost $10K in salary over the course of my career. This new offer gives me that money back plus a little more. With any luck, once I'm brought on full time it'll improve even more.
tl;dr I've got a new job offer!

I told them about my stepdad's cancer and that there MIGTH be a need for me to rush up to Maine to be there with my mom if/when that situation goes sideways. Just the mere possibility of a family emergency was enough for them to nope out. Also, the fact that I wanted to give my current employer 2 weeks notice.

My nephew Matthew Gaetano has been picked to be on the History Channel show Forged in Fire. He leaves on Sunday October 31 and filming will begin on November 1. We have no idea when his episode will be on but it is exciting. The Forged in Fire producers followed him in Instagram, mrgblades2019. They contacted him to be on the show. His website is mrgblades.com. He makes some beautiful knives. His website has a large gallery of knives he has made. His website will also educate you on the different types of knives. He is slowly turning knife making into a full time job. He currently is an instructor at Rosedale Technical College teaching auto mechanics with a specialization in the electrical components of a car.
If you need any type of knife mrgblades is your best bet. I have recommended him to quite a few people and they have been more than happy with the custom knives they have purchased.

Char's niece was on the show twice. One episode she made a blade with a horse shaped pommel.

Char's niece was on the show twice. One episode she made a blade with a horse shaped pommel. I vaguely remembered somebody with a connection to JAD was on the show but I didn't remember who. I did remember it was a female though. If she was on the show twice does that mean they brought back champions for another competition? I have watched the show a few times but haven't seen repeat contestants.

Yes she was brought back for the champions competition. I watched her on both, she did not win the 2nd time though.

They bring people back all the time. Sometimes they're champions. Sometimes they're getting second or third chances. I go through moods where I binge the entire series. I don't remember details well, though.

Yes she was brought back for the champions competition. I watched her on both, she did not win the 2nd time though. Was her name Rita Thurman? I was looking back at past winners of Forged in Fire and her name came up and Kelly Vermeer as female winners. I know that another woman Jennifer Lyddane won the second chance competition in Season 8.

It was Kelly Vermeer, I remember Char talking about her niece Kelly.

Had my best round of golf in a year yesterday! I shot an 88 (16 over par) but that included 2 quad bogey holes and a triple bogey hole. So most of the damage was done on only 3 holes. The rest I played very well. Even made a birdie putt from only 2’ on a par 4 so my approach irons were very dialed in.
I made a pretty big change in my stance and it seems to be working. I was hitting straighter shots that were closer to the target I felt I was aiming for very steadily. Hope I can keep working with this!

At work, my team's manager and a couple levels of project managers have worked with the client to get us raises, mine's 11.7%. I forgot to ask if we are keeping the 15% shift differential for working Saturday and Sunday, as well.

I work for the concessionaire at the UBS Arena, home of the NY Islanders. We just got a new union contract, with a 14.7% raise, plus we are now accepting tips, which are pooled & split for all the employees at their concession stand.

For the first time since I started working at the age of 16, I finally got a raise! Prior to this raise, I only got my raises by changing jobs or when minimum wage went up.

I was in Texas until yesterday. My son lives outside of Dallas, Euless Texas to be exact and he got married last Saturday on the 18th. My wife and I spent a week in Texas meeting his fiancé's parents, rehearsal dinner etc., etc. It was a great time. The only thing that is a bit sad is my son will live in Texas permanently and we live in Pittsburgh. It will be tough to see him a lot.

Yay! Just passed my driving test.
Now to get a car that's big enough to get a 9' surfboard in the back :-)

I don't fancy trying riding with that on the side of a 600cc bike at 70mph...!
