So, ya wanna be a busybody and poke your snout into someone else's biz? Well, hold off until they ask,but here's the place to do it. We ask that you not create a bunch of fresh topics concerning your pitiful personal issues. That's what this fine topic is for.
Got a problem? Need some free advice? Your water heater blew up, and you need brand suggestions? Marriage blew up, and you want a list of questions to ask the lawyers? Why should we relocate to Alabama? Is there any way to convert my frequent flier miles into cash? Who runs the best Alaska cruises? And for your computing related questions ...

Question for travelers: How much of a tip do you leave for the maid service people?? One night in a $70 room is how much??

Most of the hotels/motels I stayed at on the road trip had little envelopes that suggested $2-5/night. The general consensus from my hotel maid friends and kin is that if you leave a mess, though, more is a suitable apology. One cousin had to clean up after some oil and gas guys had a wild party, it took her and another person 3 hours. The guys did leave a $200 tip.

Honestly I never leave a tip. It's just not something I've ever thought of.

I don't leave a tip either if I am only staying one night in a hotel. If I am staying a week I leave $50. When we go on our cruises even though gratuity is built in to the daily fee we usually give $100 to our Cabin Steward and any bar steward that gave us great service during the time we were on the ship.

BNF web site is not available outside of UK but at a guess penicillin is too broad a term. Individual penicillins such as amoxicillin, flucloxacillin & phenoxymethicillin are for particular infections. The original penicillins are no longer used due to resistance and even now most of the above are only used at doses that would have been reserved for severe infections only a few years ago.
The era of scattergun penicillins is gone. Now it is a specific anti-biotic for a diagnosed infection. Some broad spectrum anti-biotics will be used on ad hoc basis while waiting for test results to come back but the days of throwing random anti-biotics at suspected infections are gone.

I leave $10 a day for housekeeping at hotel/motels in the $80 to $120 a night range. $100 a week at resorts. I don't leave big messes either.

Is there any big secret to settiong up a virtual machine? I'm trying to set up an XP machine to work on an old sat nav. I downloaded a .vhd from windowsbut cannot get it mounted using either VirtualBox or VMWare. I have a Win 7 Professional and two Win 8 machines that I can use for it. I wanst to avoid using the Win 10 that I use in the pharmacy.

My email has stopped working on my Mac. It is a Gmail account and is asking for a password. When I give it, I then get the following warning.:
This will allow macOS to:
Read, compose, send and permanently delete all your email from Gmail
See, edit, download and permanently delete your contacts
See, edit, share and permanently delete all the calendars that you can access using Google Calendar
View and send chat messages
And I have to click "Allow" to get into my email. Seriously? I'm going to allow a piece of software to do what the hell it wants with all my mail/contacts/calendar including deleting the lot?
WTF?

The built in Mail app? Seems crazy? Have you Googled that exact text? I just did. Link is support.google.com/mail/thread/4330044?hl=enIn the context I just saw it described all you are doing is allowing macOS to be your client side software and it needs your permission to do things in Google cloud that reflect your actions on your own computer.

A quick question for the left-ponders, what do you call the day before the first day of Lent?

It depends on the religion and region. Most Protestant denominations, and non-Christians, don't do Lent, so may not pay attention to when it starts. If there are a lot of Catholics in the area, a non-Catholic might know about Ash Wednesday and so guess Tuesday. People around New Orleans will say "Mardi Gras" without thinking. I know a lot of people who "celebrate" Mardi Gras without knowing what it's about, the reasoning behind it and the paczki.

Over in the Anglican church (forget the US name for Anglican religion) it is called Shrove Tuesday.

Tuesday.
But in my first congregation in Baton Rouge, the three months before Lent were called Mardi Gras. I've definitely heard it called Shrove Tuesday as well.
For our church, Ash Wednesday is observed but Shrove Tuesday isn't.

For most people who pay any attention to it in the UK, Shrove Tuesday is just for making pancakes...!

Thanks folks. There was an assertion in another forum that "Shrove Tuesday" was an Americanism. I didn't think it was, and you seem to have confirmed that.

I had to hit Wikipedia. I knew Quakers don't do Lent. I don't remember doing anything special for it from the few years when my family attended a Methodist church, but I was 13 when we moved here, if there were any special observances or activities for it, they weren't specifically named.
