A question for the Legal Eagles. I retired last July. Collecting from my 401(k) since then. I was asked to work for the same company PT, and I agreed, to supplement my income. The company that administers the retirement is the same company that administers payroll. I was DENIED my check for retirement, BECAUSE I am now on the payroll. IS THIS LEGAL? I just saw this, hope you have rectified the problem. A few thoughts, the 401K is your money, not the companies, I think someone at the company that administers the payments made an executive decision that was not theirs to make. Only scenario I can see is if your company has rules against drawing from your 401k and working, but you should have been advised of that before you were rehired. A number of years ago a grocery chain that I did a lot of work for had a great 401k, one of the guys in the garage "retired" and took his money to build a house. After he built his house he came back looking for a job, WD would not rehire him. WD did not want employees working for 10 years, taking their "stock", and then coming back. Another thing that you may already be aware of, depending on your age, if you earn too much "supplement" income, it may effect your Social Security.

The tinfoil hats are trying to claim this is in relation to a whistleblower report that aired on 60 minutes last night about Facebook not doing enough to stop the Insurrection back in January. Virtual document shredding as it were.

Zuckerberg lost a few pennies from the outage. Over $1 billion according to my paper. Shame. Pot noodles for the rest of the month for his kids. ::Edit:: Now reported as $6bn.

How much weight do you give employee review sites like Glassdoor? I have a job offer with a very nice bump in pay. When I look the company up, I see their overall rating manages to be lower than the company I'd be leaving.
The new job is 6 months temp to perm. The current one is a full time perm contract, good til the end of the decade. This is a part of my concern, but, the lower rating on Glassdoor is a bigger concern.

I read the comments, they'll tell you more than a number. Sometimes it's shit that you don't care about. Sometimes it's crappy things that you never considered.

I'd go for a lower paid job with decent management than a higher paid one working for bastards.
I know, I've done both.

I'm with Stan, I read the comments. If they all point to shitty mgmt, then it would be a no. If there more like something petty, then go for it.

Bought a new SSD to use as back up. Can't read it but can read other drives in the same enclosure. Computer does a "ding" when plugged in USB port but doesn't show anywhere!

ISTR that some SSDs need formatting if you're going to use them to clone a drive, but not for just regular use.
You'd need to check the make and model to be sure.
Other issues, try a different USB cable/ port or check if it needs specific drivers (it shouldn't if it's USB, but...)

Any iPhone experts? Mine seems to have put on a little weight over Christmas. I assume this is the battery that has expanded. It still seems to work fine, but as it is about 6 years old . . . Is it worth trying to get it repaired? Or do I need to save up some pennies?

The iPhone 7 is likely to be dropped from support quite soon. I replaced my company’s entire inventory of iPhone 7 last year. Most had battery issues.

According to Apple the iPhone 6 is still in support. But if I took it to them, they would probably want to replace the case/screen/lord knows what as well as the battery, or just sell me a new one. I suppose 6 years is a good life, to be quite honest, it doesn't work very well, half the memory is taken up by the operating system, most of the rest is taken uo by photos and videos which I want to keep on my computer, but the phone insists on having a copy as well. I have very few apps on it, and the one app I really like has stopped working properly.

Malcolm,
We have places here in the US called Battery Plus that will put a new battery in your iPhone. I don't know if similar stores exist in the UK. My wife's old iPhone 6 got another three years of life by replacing the battery. We just replaced her iPhone a few months ago with a new iPhone 12.

I'm going to see if I've retained any of my electronic repair skills.
According to videos on YouTube, the hardest part is getting the screen out without cracking it, well mine is half out already!
I've ordered a replacement battery kit from a third party supplier, about $30. It even comes with all the tools needed.

But I’ve not really had any experience working on electronics.

I have to report success!!!
I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and whilst they didn't mention how to retrieve tiny screws that get dropped into the phone, I have a working phone . . . except . . .
It won't take incoming calls. I can call out to my landline, and the number shows up correctly, but when I try to call the cell phone from my landline, it goes straight to my voicemail.
How weird is that? Any ideas?

Blinking heck, that was a marathon. I found that the number was 'blocked' somehow, so I unblocked it, but it still didn't work. A small s/w update was available, so I did that, and it said the number was blocked again, so I unblocked it. Waited 10 minutes, still not working. Phone reboot, nope. So I unblocked again and did an immediate phone reboot. It worked, number shows as unblocked, and actually rings. Ye Gods.
I did find a Q&A in Apple where one enquirer said it appeared to take a 'random amount of time' for the unblock to be actioned. That was 5 years ago. Perhaps Apple can't fix it.

Gun question for you. Bill wanted to leave his hunting rifles to a friend and a handgun to his son. Does any paperwork need to be done to transfer ownership? Does it depend on the state?

Ideally, there should be a background check run, but the recipients should talk to a local FFL about specific procedures, especially if the firearms have to cross state lines.

Does anybody have any experience with filing a form 1041 for taxes for a trust after a parent passes? I've been putting it off and I read through it yesterday and needless to say I'm confused. There's only a 1099-R that needs to be reported but man I'm lost.
Edit to add: I've always done my own taxes, even when we had multiple rental homes. I've always used Turbo Tax and have never had a problem. The issue is that turbo tax (online version) doesn't do these. You have to buy the desktop business version at $170. Trying not to do that.

H&R Block is easier than Turbo Tax. I've used it for the last 5 or 6 years and it is about $35 with out a repeat discount.

I don't know about taxes on a trust. I do know next year I have to file a tax report for my father-in-law that died in February. Personally, I buy the Turbo Tax every year since I cannot use any free versions of any tax software due to my investments and being a member of an S-2 investment partnership.
