Random Rants
Got something to say? Somebody piss you off? Here's your soapbox. Get it off your chest.
A rant should include one of the following:
1) The desire to do bodily harm to the offending individual or entity 2) The questioning of the offending individual or entities parentage. 3) Demonstration of moronic activity from the offending individual or entity. 4) Exposure of superior intellect of the offended over that of the offending individual or entity.
If you haven't included at least one of the above, then it's a whine, not a rant.
The appropriate venue for a whine would be your blog.

Back when I was going to college in 1977 streaking was still a thing.

My doctor sent 4 prescriptions to my pharmacy. 2 of the scrips were originally not approved by my insurance & would have cost $650. By changing a few of the words in the order, the 2 scrips became 3, and with 1 of the originals, now were covered by the insurance & cost $13.
That's not what this rant is about. One of the original 4 was an over-the-counter item & was not filled by the pharmacist, so I had to pick that up separately. That 1 item cost $19 for 1/3 the amount my doctor prescribed.
$13 for 4 prescriptions vs. $19 for 1 OTC item!

I'm guessing but here in Ireland the pharmacist would have the power to substitute brands for cheaper generics etc. No insurance companies to deal with as the govt is the main payer.

In the US they need either employer provided or private coverage for drugs. The insurer has the veto power. Most pharmacies would sub generic. That happens here too but I still take the original brand. For the more expensive one (Lipitor) I have a card from the manufacturer that gives me a price more like the generic. Guess they don’t want to lose sales instead of raking huge profits.

Here if you want the brand over generic you pay the extra yourself. A few drugs are exempt where bio-availability is critical and the generic is not within 5% of the brand. (That last sentence is not something that I thought I would ever be putting up on a joke forum.)

I didn’t know whether to put this into ATE or here, I’ve just decided.
I am sick to fucking death of Apple and its shitty products. When I retired I was told by many people that I should get a Mac desktop as my home computer and an Apple phone for personal use. I listened to their advice and spent the best part of $4000 on Apple products.
Jeez, worst decision ever.
The phone loses contacts for no reason. Contacts that I have had for years or just for a few weeks. Gone. That person no longer exists.
If you plug it in, it won’t necessarily start charging, only if it feels like it. A new contact has just called me. It took me ten minutes to work out how to save them as a contact.
Both the PC and the phone have just installed themselves new software. As a result of this upgrade, they have decided to share my photo library. Now my phone memory is full of photos that I don’t need on it, but if I try to delete photos to create space, it tells me that this action will cause that photo to be deleted from all devices.
I don’t want to delete the photo from all devices, just my fucking phone!
Some times I want to transfer photos from my DSLR to my PC. Sometimes the PC will see the camera, sometimes it won’t. It is usually easier for me to connect the DSLR to my Windows laptop and email the photos to myself on the Mac.
I bought a Trailcam this week. If I connect that to the Mac it sees it immediately. “Would you like me to download all new images?” “Oooh, yes please!” I say. “I’ll download them to a file called ‘IMPORTS’ “ it replies.
Super. I can look at these images in the Photos app on my Mac. Oooh, that’s a nice one, I’d like to put that on FB. So I go to FB, type up a preamble and hit ‘Photo/Video’. It takes me to recents, but the photo isn’t there, even though I was only just viewing it 2 minutes ago. (There’s a file from 6 weeks ago though.) So I go to ‘Finder’ and search for ‘Imports’. Nope. Doesn’t exist. OK, well I know the file was called ‘IMG0297’, where is that? It’s not on this computer matey, comes the reply.
(I got round this one by splitting the screen and dragging the image from Photos to FaceBook.)
I bought a WD My Cloud standalone backup device. Plugged it in, ran the setup, it all worked brilliantly, for a while. Then it would sometimes stop seeing the device, even though I could ping it. Gradually it saw it less and less often, when it did see it, it wouldn’t allow me access. Now it says it isn’t there at all. I even tried re-installing it. No chance. So now I am using a computer with no backup, something which every fibre in my body says is ‘WRONG WRONG WRONG’
I started to use the ‘Pages’ and ‘Numbers’ apps, but found them quite difficult to understand. On asking my Mac loving friends for help, I was told “Oh, no, don’t use them, drop a copy of MS Word and Excel on to it, and use those instead.” Fine. Except every day I try to use them, especially Word, it will hang for 30-60 seconds with the cursor just showing a spinning rainbow, for no apparent reason.
I used to understand file systems. C: was your root, then you created sub-directories, and sub-sub-directories, and the whole thing looked like a tree. But on this damn machine I have to think about Documents or Applications or Recents. Does the Photo directory contain my photos? Does it fuck.
If somebody would offer me a Windows machine which could take all the shit off this Mac and put it back into proper order, I’d pay another $4000. I’d save that much in pain and agony over the next year.

Pretty good rant Malcolm. I'd give it 7/10. You lost points due to the lack of any cuss words. Myself I was never a fan of Apple. Just too expensive for my liking. You're just paying for bragging rights. As time went on reading rants like yours have proved me right. I have an IPad sitting here on my desk that I won at a trade show a few years ago. I took it with us to New York 5 years ago and decided that it was a worthless pile of sh1t then. I hate using smart phones but not nearly as much as the IPad. Chalk it up to experience and just buy a decent smart phone and PC/laptop.

What Frodi said. I played with an Apple/Mac some years ago, but it was painful. I'll stick with my old windoze box.

I liked my mac experience. The cost to admittance into their ecosystem isn't worth it, though. I'm happy with ChromeOS and Android.

I’m still a Mac guy. Malc, don’t know what to say. You are holding onto the old Windows ecosystem. The C drive on Windows while it still exists has done all it can to copy Mac. Lots of folders that are really just redirects. Mac underlying system is not DOS based so it is different. Some of the differences you are seeing are just different ways of getting from A to B. I had the same issues trying to use an Android device years ago and hated that too. Simply learning curve stuff. As you get the hang of it the Mac way does become more natural.

How hard is it to click on a link and read the article to make sure it's still relevant before you share it? Why the hell would you just share a link without reading more information, if only to find out if the missing person is near you?

to my co-worker.
please learn how to read a fucking schedule!!!!!!!!
You thought that you had a day off because you worked the weekend because that was how it is used to be. But if you would have taken 10-15 seconds to check the schedule, you would have known that I had a vacation day. Your day off was moved to another day. Because of that. I can't update the schedule no more plus our boss thinks that I was doing something illegal.
And now I'm supposed to apologize to you because you because you might have been offended that your day off wasn't where it was. Of course I could mention that the schedule has been this way since July and you didn't say anything.

Jesus fucking christ!
I'm offering a set of products on my website (which are normally £110 if you bought them individually) for £55, that's 50$ off!
And what do you fucking do? You complain that the "£10 off your first order of over £50" discount code doesn't work.
Well of course it doesn't fucking work, you greedy bastard, you're saving £55 *already* on your purchase and I'm not making these items for fucking NOTHING, that's why it says "Terms and Conditions apply" and on our T&Cs page it says "Some of our products are on sale at lower prices, for example as a discount if you buy multiple items. Please note that any Discount Codes we offer may not be applicable to these products."
It doesn't work because I'm not fucking stupid and would like to make a bit of money you cheeky fucker!

Excellent rant. Good use of cuss words. Lose one point for the typo. 9/10 Ok, so it was fifty fucking *percent*, not fifty fucking dollars!
So sue me...
Oh, and a follow up, I told the cheeky cunt he wasn't getting the discount, so the crafty little shit says "Ok, I'll add this item for £14 and use the £10 voucher off orders over £50 to get a discount on that!"
Now I have to admire the sneaky bastard too...!!!

Dear Roku, Thank you for informing me that my current Roku unit will possibly no longer work properly. Silly me, I should have noticed that items would not play, suddenly go blank, not return to the program that I was watching, screen dimming and sound reduction, and popups showing other available programs with 15 minutes left. Your email said I was eligible for a new Roku Express for the tidy sum of just $15. Not sure why I was incapable of finding any such price in your offers anywhere. Trying various threads in your online community had me wanting to read the comments section of Fox News. In a last ditch effort, I was able to find an email address for concerns. Your speedy reply in just one single month was impressive. Thank you for informing me that the $15 offer was for a Limited Time, good thing I checked that email the day I received it. And even more thanks for the Coupon code for a discount to make up for my shortcomings, sadly my shortcomings are extraterrestrial, and I'm unable to get it to work, except on your Premiere products which with only a few more dollars added, I can buy a Roku with a flat screen tv attached. Have a Blessed Day.
Dear Roku, Again I wish to thank you. This time your reply was super fast in just one week to inform me that the discount code was not for the Express, but only for the pricier Roku models. I just placed my order for an Amazon Fire Stick which was 30% off and they offered another 20% discount when I ship my old Roku back to them, even though it will be obsolete soon. They are even paying the shipping. I wish you well in the coming year.

My mom's expecting up to 8" worth of snow today.
My date was canceled last night because of the snow that was forecasted. Didn't see any white stuff here, but, 3" was expected where we were going.
