My printer has been driving me mad. It was an HP inkjet. Recently my iMac refused to accept the drivers, throwing up constant warnings saying they were 'harmful'. Some days I would have to de-install and re-install the printer. Eventually it got to the point where I could only install it as a 'generic' printer. I lost most of the features and the print quality wasn't brilliant. I was hoping to try to keep using it until the inks ran out, but no chance. I spent some money. Not a lot, a basic entry-level HP colour laser, HP150nw.
One of the good features of owning a Mac, I was told, was that you just connected new devices and they install themselves. Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, clunk. (That's me falling off my chair.) I worked for HP for 17 years, and I've installed quite a few hundred printers in that time. OK, technology has advanced and changed, and I am most certainly not up to date, but surely things should be easier?
In the old days, you gave the printer an IP address, you created a new printer on the PC, loaded the drivers and chose the one with the right IP address, simple.
The instructions to unpack this printer covers 5 pages. The reference guide is 88 pages long, but only two and a half are in English. From cutting the tape on the box to getting a printed page in my hand took me 1 hour and 35 minutes. I couldn't (and still haven't) found how to do a test print.
It's a good job the pubs have reopened, 'cos I need a drink.

Fucking hell.
I just got a promotion at work. Should be good news, right? I mean I've NEVER gotten a promotion at work. The closest thing to a promotion I've ever gotten was being upgraded from a Temp Contractor to a Full-Time Contractor.
I found my offer letter from when I started three years ago. My "promotion" is to the position I was hired for according to my offer letter. I was hired as a Senior Desktop Support Engineer. Until recently, our HR System had me listed as a Junior Support Engineer. 15 years in IT and I was a JUNIOR?

#fuckcancer
Mom called tonight. My stepdad has bone cancer. They just found out a few hours ago. We don't talk often, but, it doesn't make hearing her cry over the phone any easier. They've been together 41 years. There was a 3 year breakup when she was married to my dad, but, they've still got a long time together.
They don't know a whole lot. Don't know what stage, don't know what the treatment might be. Obviously, don't know how much time he has. However, his problems have really been developing over the last 4 months. They thought it was from his vaccine at first because of the timing. Symptoms started shortly after his second shot. That's obviously ruled out. He can't put on a shirt by himself. He can't walk their little dogs. He can't grip his golf clubs. He can't raise his arms above his head.
I think I'm going to be getting THAT call a lot sooner than later.

Dear Supervisor:
Yes, eye exams and glasses are expensive, but the errors you make because you "can't afford it" could cost us this account. I have no problems with reporting your intake errors on the feedback form.

Dear Supervisor:
If during my shift I tell you that I'm having connectivity issues and say that my cable company says it appears to be my modem, I am keeping you in the loop, not asking you for tech support, that is why I called my cable company. Actually, if I email you with a statement, I'm only keeping you in the loop. If I need your advice, I will ask a question.

Well Fuck you very much BB&T now Truist. About two years ago I took the bait for a new Visa Rewards card with BBT. It pays 1-4% back on every purchase. It was marketed as "Pay all your recurring bills like water, electric, gas, etc and get money back". Since I pay the balance each month, I make money. Anyway, I seemed to be getting random charges for $25-30 every 6 months or so for something I didnt buy or order. They only way they will fix it is cancel the card and reissue a new card number. Then I have to go to everyone that I have set the card up to pay and reenter my info. I do not carry the card, I typically do not use it for random purchases. So today after BB&T now Truists automated system hung up on me twice because I must have hit the wrong number 6 levels deep, I finally get a live person, who cannot answer questions, because she has to aske me if I've called the police, when did I notice the improper charge (10 seconds after it was made and I received a text message, but couldnt do anything until the charge posted), etc. Then I'm handed over to someone else who askes virtually the same questions except one. "Would you like for us to block your new card number?". I said I didnt understand. " We provide the merchants where you have used the card with your new card number". Well hot fucking damn, do you think that could be why this keeps happening? Some random charge I used the card at somewhere in the past two years keeps getting my new card number and the 3 digit number everyone asks for, they dont require that number if it is set up as a recurring charge. I think it is time to tell BB&T now Truist to take a flying fuck off.

Oh FFS!
For those of you not aware, because of Brexit and the Pandemic, a lot of foreign HGV (articulated lorry) drivers went back to Europe and there's now a shortage of around 100,000 drivers in the UK.
So a couple of days ago, some fucking stupid news reporters started saying that a few BP petrol stations had run out because there weren't people to drive the fucking tankers.
Our fucking idiotic government immediately rushed out a statement that we have a "robust" supply chain (whatever the fuck that means) and there was plenty of petrol. Given the number of times they've lied and distorted and deceived the public over the past year or three, naturally nobody trusted a single fucking word they said!
So now it seems that every fucking moron with a car has decided that "Well, I don't *really* need petrol now, but I'd better fill up just in case it's run out when I do need some because everyone else has bought it up" and created their own fucking self-fulfilling prophecy!!!
I was planning on getting out on the bike today to enjoy the last of the warm weather, but unfortunately I didn't tank up when I came back from surfing in Bristol a few days ago.
Now I have a near-empty tank and I'm not going to sit in a queue with a bunch of selfish fucking pillocks panic buying!!

Stay away from Car Shield.
I found out the hard way when I had to have my car repaired. When I bought the coverage, I was told that I was covered for everything, that it was the best coverage available. Now after paying over $1,500 for 14 months, when I had to put in a claim, I find out my contract not only isn't the best that they offer, it's the 2nd worst coverage out of 4. It does not cover all parts (except for those listed), it ONLY covers specific parts that are listed. That is the reason that I have cancelled my account.

How the FUCK does money know when there's a little surplus coming? My last check comes tomorrow and it includes 20 something days of unused PTO. My water heater let go.
Thankfully, dad was smart enough to plumb the blowoff valve outside so the water intrusion is minimal.

Thankfully, dad was smart enough to plumb the blowoff valve outside so the water intrusion is minimal. If the blowoff valve went it doesn’t mean the heater is done does it? I mean it could but it could just be the blow off valve that went. Easy and cheap to fix. The heater should have stayed full so the heating element should be fine. I mean I get the tank could rupture but that wouldn’t send the water out the blowoff valve.

Figured I would put this here since it is a rant.
I am glad to see 2021 go. I know I posted pictures in the General Bullshit thread about my adult chicken pox that I had back in November.
Well, in July and August I spent those months in our guest room and not in the bed with my wife. In the first week of July, July 2nd to be exact, I thought I had what was a UTI. Went to a Med Express they gave me some anti-biotics. It helped just a bit but I couldn't completely relieve myself. It got progressively worse and I went to my primary care physician. He gave me stronger anti-biotics and had me get blood work done. Again, I felt better for a few days but had to force myself to pee and it hurt like hell when I did. At night, and this is a bit TMI, I would leak urine and not know it. As I said I slept in the guest room bed with depends on, towels stuffed in them, pads and large towels on the bed that would be soaked with urine. When I went to Med Express and my doctor they suggested I make an appointment with a urologist. I did make an appointment on July 2 but the earliest he could see me was August 12. My blood work showed my PSA was at 18.7. A normal PSA range for men should be between 1 and 1.5. My legs swelled like balloons since I was retaining water. My PCP then prescribed a diuretic which helped a little but my legs were so swollen it hurt. He also made me go to the hospital and get a sonogram on my legs to make sure I had no blood clots. After a week the swelling subsided and by August 6, seeing my PCP on that date, I felt pretty good. But, on August 7 I started to get uncontrollable shivering and then an hour or so later I would sweat profusely. I put up with that for four days but I was sleeping almost 24 hours a day and still couldn't pee correctly. On August 11 I called my PCP and he told me to go to the lab and get blood work again. I went and he got the results the later that day. He called my house and said Mike go to the hospital immediately your kidneys are failing and you have a blood infection, sepsis.
Are you still with me? I know this is long.
So, I go to the hospital, they do x-rays, blood work etc., etc. and admit me to the ICU and give me antibiotics 24/7 for five days. On the morning of August 12 the urologist comes to the hospital and says you were supposed to see me in the office today and I am charging you $35 for missing an appointment. He thought it was funny but I didn't. I was so weak and not eating and I responded that if I could I would get out of this bed and punch you in the face. They did a sonogram on my bladder and knew it was full of urine and at this point was the size of a small watermelon. They then put a catheter in me. I have had broken bones, torn cartilage, etc., etc. And, in fact for two of my broken arms I walked around a week or so before I got them fixed. I have a high tolerance of pain but putting a catheter in mean was the worst. I literally screamed. The catheter drained close to 3 liters of urine. What happened is my bladder was infected, the infection spread to my kidneys, and then to my blood stream. My kidneys were also abnormally large since they couldn't pass any fluid to my bladder since it was full. While in the hospital they took blood samples about four times a day to check for bacteria. On the morning of the fifth day no more bacteria in my blood and I was discharged.
All of this was due to an enlarged prostate that was pushing on my urethrae. The urologist saw this on the sonogram and I was scheduled for surgery, known as green light laser surgery on August 30th. But, in the mean time I still had a catheter and walked around with a urine bag, small one if I went out in public and a large one that I changed to overnight. The surgery was outpatient surgery but I couldn't leave until I peed. I had a very hard time doing that and they almost had to put the catheter in again. I went to the bathroom and forced myself to pee and out shot a blood cot about the size of a quarter. It was blocking me already. I wasn't allowed to flush but when I did pee I yelled in elation I am peeing and my wife and nurses outside the door laughed. The nurse saw the huge blood clot in the toilet and said that was the problem.
Still with me?
When I went into the surgery I had to sign I would accept a transfusion if needed. I did sign but said to the surgical nurse that if I need a blood transfusion from this surgery something went horribly wrong or they cut it off! When I was wheeled into the operating room and got on the surgical bed myself I saw about 10 people in the operating room. I said out loud to them, oh great ten more people get to see my penis. They all laughed. It is funny you lose all modesty when you are very sick.
So why is this a rant? If I could have seen the urologist right away and they did the sonogram the surgery would have been scheduled within a day or two. I wouldn't have had sepsis, which could have killed me and never would have been admitted to the ICU. My PCP even called the urologist numerous times and asked if they could see me right away. I even called every other day to see if there were cancellations but there weren't any.
So, as far as I am concerned good riddance to 2021.

I'm fucking sick of not being able to go to a store and get the shit that I need. If I'm in a store it's because I need a thing urgently.
I need a USB C to HDMI adapter so I can use my phone for a slideshow at the funeral. I'm not 100% it'll work the way I want so I need to get my hands on it urgently. Fucking nobody had them in stock locally. They can order it to get here next week, though. Best Buys shelves are more than half empty.
Amazon will get me one for Friday. Hopefully it works.

All part of the global shipping system fuck up unfortunately. It is extremely difficult to get goods anywhere. Not a local thing to you. ETA - not dismissing your frustration, sorry if it sounded that way. Just the way shit is right now and we’re all with you in hating it.

B-b-but all the supply and stock issues were caused by Brexit, weren't they?

I’m going to say Brexit caused the Plandemic so that when things got funky as a result of trying to work through changes resulting from leaving the EU, they could point to the rest of the world and claim you weren’t alone in this. It s global problem, not a British problem!
It’s as plausible as some Of the other theories out there.

Quite a tale Mank. You have my deepest sympathies. The rest of my family don't understand why I get so worked up about medical short comings. This is exactly why. Meanwhile I'm waiting for a consult with a neurologist to sort out some issues with my epilepsy before any chance of surgery. The earliest appointment I can get is Sat March 19th. Saturday is the hardest day for me to get a locum and March 19th is effectively a bank holiday weekend here as Thursday 17th is Paddys Day. I need to get two tests before this and today they rang with a possible date for one. Next Monday! Way too soon to organise a locum. They don't even know the available dates for February yet. They'll ring me back. I dread to think what would be the situation if I was relying on the public health system and didn't have (and afford) private insurance.

Why is everything so damn expensive right now? All the things I need/want are just insanely priced! My 5 year old GPU is now going for double what I paid for it new! I need some plywood to fix some things around the house, prices have tripled! Electrical wire? 4x what I paid a year and a half ago! Not to mention staples like eggs, milk, flour, etc all going up in price! Somewhere in the supply chain, someone is making a lot of money! My budgets are in shambles and there is nothing I can do about it. Bills keep coming in, loans have to be paid, but somehow, money is not increasing coming in. Sigh. I really just want the world to go back to the old normal, I could deal with that. Really, I would be just repeating my self. I think things are actually even MORE expensive now!

If there's one type of music I can't stand is when hip-hop is played in the car next to me with huge sub-woofers & open windows.
Now I found something even worse. When a hip-hop artist is playing in the arena where I work. The bass is so loud & the concert speakers are so close to the concession stand that I work at, when I lean against the wall, the wall shakes & thuds. I fell like I'm watching an old movie in Sensurround.

I live on a narrow one-way street, with parking on one side only.
If you have to wait for someone, do you have to double park in front of their house? Why not pull up 2 or 3 houses and park against the curb in front of someone's driveway? Both are technically illegal, but one lets traffic pass.
