I know it's a risk.
However I manage those risks, I'm cautious, I've taken advanced training, I exercise due care and attention when I'm on the roads.
I know I can't eliminate all risk, but I can do my best to mitigate it wherever possible.
The same goes for COVID-19.
My buddy that got totalled while riding his Harley in Sept. 2018 just today saw the surveillance video that shows the collision he was in. An oncoming car turned across his path with no warning whatsoever. Blink of an eye from clear to impact. You cannot control that. Over the bars, slammed into the windshield then landed 37 feet from the collision spot. Police had his bike going 37km/hr. That’s under 25 mph for you US folk. Still worth the risk.

There are a lot of things in life you can't control.
The question is, are you going to let them control you?
Getting back to the topic of this thread, I can't control getting COVID-19, but I can mitigate against it by simple things like washing my hands after using the toilet etc.
I could also lock myself in my room and shun all human contact, but I think that would be an over-reaction...

You might drive carefully, but other people might not.
I still say, if you want to ride, then ride.

I'm not too worried about it and I travel a lot. Wash your damn hands and your risk lowers significantly.
I've had two audits postponed already because of it, and I suspect more will be soon because of fears over it. It means more time home right now but will mean a busier summer once all this passes.
I was at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport on Tuesday. Watched a lady wearing a face mask (which the CDC has said will not help and may actually increase your risk) leave the bathroom without washing her hands (which illness issue aside, is just yuck). MSP had a lot of people wearing masks, Detroit did not.
Wash your hands. I repeat, wash your hands.

Motorcycle riding and skiing both carry risks (and are a lot of fun). I do what I can to mitigate the risks and just have fun.
I'm not terribly concerned about coronavirus for myself; but my 94 yr old dad and my wife are in the high risk group. I don't want to bring anything home to them.

WHO is saying that there is no guarantee that this will act “seasonally” like the flu.
Earlier today I heard on the radio that it can live outside a host (i.e. on a door handle) for 3 -9 hours.
The suggested safe perimeter is 3 - 6 feet from other people who might be infected.

I just got this email from Shipt.com. This is getting ridiculous.

I work with the public and often handle money at my job but I'm not overly concerned about the coronavirus. At work we've always been given hand sanitizer to keep at our desks because of handling cash, especially during flu season. I think that between that and washing my hands frequently I'll be fine. Reggie has COPD so he certainly doesn't need to catch it so when he goes to the gym he does wipe any equipment he uses with disinfectant wipes. We certainly won't be cancelling any planned trips because of coronavirus.

People have been stealing the stuff for years. Particularly in-patient alcoholics, who couldn't get a fix of anything else. Some manufacturers put in an additive to make it taste nasty.
Many people see the NHS as a soft touch to steal anything. "It doesn't matter, it's all free anyway".

Probably because like here there is none to purchase anywhere. I've just seen a post on Facebook pointing out to the idiots who are stockpiling soap and hand sanitiser that OTHER PEOPLE also need it to stop *them* getting COVID 19 and passing it on to the hoarders...!!!

Well we went to a live show last night in a 5,000 seat theatre that was pretty much sold out. So it isn’t stopping us from doing all stuff just yet.

No cruise for me and my wife. The State Department issued a warning that no one should board a cruise ship. Princess, who we were sailing with (eighth cruise with them), has updated us and everyone that cancels will receive a full credit that is good until December 31, 2021. That works for us. Now the hard part is going to try to get a refund from United and Delta. The tickets we purchased are non-refundable but once I get through to a real person I hope they will refund us. If not I will eat $746. Thanks everyone for the ridiculous hype.
There are 545 reported cases of Coronavirus in the USA. That is 0.000167% of the population. The flu has more cases and kills more people per year. If you are healthy the Coronavirus won't kill you. This just ticks me off to no end.

This is my comment from a discussion on Facebook: ----- I do wash my hands a lot. It's a habit I picked up years ago, mostly because I'm self conscious about my personal hygiene. Sometimes I wash my hands too much and my skin burns.
But "wash your hands", in my opinion, is weak when we're talking about a fast spreading virus. To me, "wash your hands" is like "duck and cover" from the Cold War era. Is it really going to do anything?
And I keep asking myself, "when are we supposed to wash our hands?" Every time we touch something or someone? That just seems unrealistic.
I'm all for prevention and awareness, but I think the media is overplaying it, and there is panic.
What I said last week: "I know Coronavirus is real, I know it's bad, I know it has killed people and I know it's spreading. But I'm not terribly worried about it. I think it's just another thing that's going around. I certainly hope I don't catch it, but if I do, I don't think it'll kill me.
I think most people who catch it will get through it. Compared to the flu, Coronavirus is small potatoes."
But maybe I'm wrong. -----

Someone coughs on their hand and turns a door handle. For up to 9 hours that little virus is able to live without human host so even several ours later someone else uses the same door handle and then rubs their eye, touches their face somewhere and now the germ can get in. Frequent washing and not touching your face are being touted as the best way to prevent contracting it. Does not mean it is the only way you can get it but the most probable.

So, it is wash your hands every time you touch someone or something.
"Don't touch your face" is also unrealistic, especially for people who use sign language.

Wash, wash, wash those hands folks! One point that article doesn't make is that, for hand sanitizer to be effective it needs to be at least 60% alcohol.
Most brands don't have that level, so are not going to do the job anyway.

The women's steerage restroom on my floor at work has the following poster over the soap dispenser. Since it's in the back restroom, where the corporate folks don't go, I suspect it's not official. On the other hand, I just got a text from my account manager saying she is compiling a list for a BCP (Business Continuity Plan), and needs to know who has a computer and internet access at home.

We just got our first 2 confirmed cases here in Michigan. I'm not worried but I am going to caution my father about going out and about. He's in the high risk category along w/ my 2 sisters (1 w/ breast cancer and 1 w/ lupus and COPD). Why have them take the chance when they don't have to.

Went to Meijer on my lunch to pick up some stuff, including toilet paper because I'm almost out. They were almost out, the only thing left was Charmin and only about a dozen packages. Even the cheap store brand stuff was gone. Of course all the cleaning wipes were gone but the actual spray disinfectants were still available. That makes no sense whatsoever.
People. urg.

So I went to play hockey today as I do on Wednesday mornings. On the way there I hear on the news a new case in Ontario who attended a large mining industry conference in Toronto last week.
I get to hockey and sit down in the dressing room and the guy beside me says “yeah 3 of my co-workers were at that conference.”
Feck me. I realize it is still VERY long shot because there were 55,000 people at the conference. No guarantee any of these people crossed paths but there it is out there. This would be the closest I’ve encountered a potential contact other than when I was at the trade fair in Munich in January.
I was already a bit on the paranoid side about this. Again I’m not worried that it will kill me but I am worried about spreading it if I did get it an in particular to my parents who are both mid 80’s.
We got lots of TP here. While people were panic buying at Costco I tried their web-site on Friday. Ordered 2 packs and they arrived here by UPS on Tuesday. Have not found any hand sanitizer yet. I have one small bottle. I am washing my hands much more frequently than normal.

I'm glad I have enough of those supplies to last me a couple months.
But, sheesh.

I live in the sticks. I generally have enough of everything to go two weeks or more. In the case of TP, it's more like two months.
I leave on Sat to go pick up my puppy. The only thing I'm reconsidering is whether or not to bring my wife. Truck stops, motels, and such.
