Home Covid-19 Test
1. Open a can of beer and try to smell it.
2. If you can smell the beer, drink it to see if you can taste it.
3. If you can taste and smell it, this confirms you don't have COVID-19
Last night I did the test 19 times and all were negative.
Tonight I am going to do the test again, because this morning I woke with a headache and feeling like I'm coming down with something.
I am so nervous!

Yesterday, it was announced that our office workers aren't coming back until June '21 at the earliest.
Travel advisories have been put in place for Mass and Rhode Island, but New York and New Jersey don't have the same restrictions because of "how connected we are with them", whatever that means. This is despite NY and NJ meeting whatever metrics are in place to warrant advisories to other states. Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Washington, and Oregon are the only states without travel advisories. At least for Mass and RI, we can travel freely between those states as long as we stay less than 24 hours. I guess it's a good thing the state line's a whole 10 miles from my office!

A lot of companies around here are saying the same thing Jim. Most were not before the end of the year but are now revising that to at least June. Not my company, we're in office.
I think we're going to see most stay at home until a reliable vaccine is available. Could be a while.

At least for Mass and RI, we can travel freely between those states as long as we stay less than 24 hours. I guess it's a good thing the state line's a whole 10 miles from my office! There are plenty of people that live in state one but work in another, especially in that tri-state area. We have the same thing going on. MA, NJ, CT, PA and one or two others meet our restriction for quarantine but because of how much cross-traffic exists between them, it isn't practical. So, NY is asking for no unnecessary travel to those locations, but if you have to report to work in another state or have a doctor's appointment or something, they aren't going to ask that you quarantine. I suspect NJ has Maryland and Delaware in that same category for the same reason...
My company headquarters is in MA, just outside of Boston. The last update we had (early this month) was that people would be working from home through December 1 but we're due for another update in a week or so, and I fully expect it will be extended again. They do have a small group of people that are working in that office to deal with things like mail and other things that have to be done in person and we have small groups going in our R&D facility on a rotation so we can continue to develop and improve products, but ultimately there's only a few people in either building at a time.
We had our big department meeting last week (virtually of course) and our dept VP said that travel was going to be heavily restricted until a vaccine is readily available, so my expectation is 2022 before we're fully 'free' to travel again. My job is ~80% travel so this really impacts me. Thankfully there's been enough changes that I can still work and we're doing audits in phases - documents virtually and holding off on the on-site portion until things open up again - but that means we have a lot of partially completed audits right now. I was able to do one in NY two weeks ago, again documents were virtually and then I was only onsite for a couple of hours. I spent as much time driving there as I did in the facility, and then I still had to drive home.
Michael's work announced they were working from home through the end of the year back in September. They'll probably extend it again as it gets closer to that time. They have one or two people that have decided to go into the office, but that's it.
Little Man overindulged on Apple Cider over the weekend/early part of this week. The effects ended up hitting him in school on Tuesday. He was sent home early and can't come back until he has a negative test result. He had his swab on Tuesday but we won't have results until Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. While we're waiting, we're doing the responsible thing and staying completely in, even though we fully expect a negative result. Thankfully, Tuesday was the last day of his 3-day in school rotation, so he was scheduled to be remote learning Wed-Fri anyway, so he's not missing any school.

I have been back to work since August 1, 2020. Even though Raytheon has almost 200,000 people my office only has 18. The most people that have been in the office at the same time is 10. We have a series of protocols, self-checks, etc., that we go through and sign off on everyday.

I live in eastern Ohio, about 45 minutes from my workplace in Wheeling, WV, so I get the concept of what's going on with your states. I guess I better look closer into getting a real office chair for myself, because I don't see us going back totally for a while. A couple of months ago, my employer arranged for all of us to get the company discount at Office Depot, though we have to pay for what we buy ourselves, and I've been idly browsing the selections.

The part that isn't making any sense to me, right now, is that we have the advisories for Mass and Rhode Island but not New York and New Jersey even though all 4 states meet the same criteria. It's probably our governor bowing to whatever Cuomo tells him to do.

Boris Johnson: "A second Lockdown is unnecessary." "A second Lockdown would be disastrous." "A second Lockdown would ruin the recovery of the economy." "A second Lockdown is the Opposition playing politics..." I do hope he hasn't injured himself doing a massive U-Turn whilst desperately trying to pretend that he wasn't doing a massive U-Turn...

It's amazing how COVID is changing even the most basic protocols.
My aunt died yesterday, likely a cardiac event. It took the Medical Examiner's Office 5 hours to pronounce her dead and they did that over the phone. The responders couldn't move her for 5 hours while they waited for the M.E.

Well, with the UK Lockdown running until at least the 2nd of December, there's one piece of good news...
No non-stop medley of f***ing Carols and the Little Drummer Boy and Merry Xmas Every Body and Stop the Cavalry in every damn shop for the next month!!!

Minister blames public for second English lockdownThe Tory government is (unsurprisingly) blaming the public for the second Lockdown. Obviously it's *nothing* to do with the incompetent way they've handled the crisis, ignoring the scientific advice, pi$$ing billions away on a "world beating" Track and Trace system that didn't work, telling people to "Eat Out to Spread it About", changing their minds constantly with U-Turn after U-Turn as they make it up as they go along because they have no clue what they're doing and are only interested in helping their mates make money... Head -> Desk

What is scary is that only 50 million of the world’s 7.8+ Billion people have had it yet. Look at all the efforts we took in spring. Imagine if the spread really takes hold and a lot of people need hospitalization at the same time?
Yes btw that is “confirmed” cases. There may actually be more but nobody knows that for certain.
