I'm 81 and "portly" with high BP under control with meds. They diagnosed the first case in my home town and I'm decided I'll have about 10 days of staying in. I may get bored stiff but think it's best for me. Gimpy I hope it is only 10 days but sadly I fear that is optimistic by a factor of nearly 20.

The Senate based plan is based on taxed year 2018, because, you know, no one's situation has changed since then.
I expect to see $0.00 if the bill passes.

Because 2018 was a good year, I am getting screwed. If they would have allowed 2019, I would have been so much better off.

How can they base it on 2019 when you haven’t filed any tax returns for 2019 yet though?

Mine have been filed for some time. My earnings in 2019 are about 1/6th of 2018.

Hey Stan! Puppy pictures? Been waiting for you to get home! What's that got to do with Coronavirus? We resisted the urge to call her Corona. Pictures are up. It's been snowing non-stop here. 26", so far. The snow is so heavy, my camera is having a hard time focusing. Also Photobucket is being crappy again, I really gotta find another host I can live with.

After today, I'm waiting to find out how my job is changing. The paper company I support does make air/oil filters, masks, and other products that will help with this virus, but, the Governor has just stopped short of copying New York's shelter in place order. He is asking all non essential employees stay home.
Being IT, I'm unsure if I need to go on site daily or not. Guess I won't know until Monday when I know I am working from home. All of our office workers are working at home.

Might not be Photobucket. There was a story on the news tonight about the data load on the whole internet with so many people in the world being forced to stay in.Netflix and other streaming services were only offering standard res downloads to try and manage it.

I have a fresh concern: The play money in my retirement is investments that pay quarterly dividends and make life enjoyable. I track better than half of them with an Ameritrade account. In the last 2 weeks my $48k looks like $29k. At some point the dividends will decrease or stop.

It was going to happen anyway with or without isolating but yeah anyone with money tied up in the market is taking a shit kicking right now.

My office has been Work From Home since Friday the 13th. That's easy enough for me. I'm actually more productive with fewer distractions. On the 19th they deactivated our office badges so you have to make an appointment and get approval to be let in if you need something from your desk or had a package being delivered there. I'm in the latter case and am waiting on approval for pickup.
My pantry is in good shape so I won't starve. (Actually, I could stand to lose several pounds...) I'm going out this morning to the post office and grocery with appropriate precautions. My grocery is open at 6am for 60+ year olds for the first hour. I want to get some fresh vegetables and some hand sanitizer. I've got some Clorox wipes but have yet to find gels.

The Pennsylvania Governor, Governor Wolf, declared all business must close that are non-life essential. The exception to this is supermarkets, take out restaurants, and car repair places. The work I do directly effects nuclear power plants so we are told we have to go to work. My company has provided two documents that we must have with us in case we are stopped when we are going to work or at work. I work in a small office of 18 people but work for United Technology Corporation that, after buying Raytheon, is around 140 billion dollar company. My division meets some exception according to the governor's guidelines.
On another note, if my wife and I receive any check from the government, since it has been reported every American will get a check, we will donate the money. We don't need it.

Good on ya for that Mank! Maybe give your local Senator a call to hurry up passage of the bill. Mind you I did read an article on the things they are sorting out in the Senate and it is at least pretty much all attempts to ensure the money goes where it is intended and needed.

Purportedly from a Doc at John Hopkins....
This is from an immunologist at Johns Hopkins University:
Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...
It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics.
Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.
Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.
Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..
H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.
Fast forward.
Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”
This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.
And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..
That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery! And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.
We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.
Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...
And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.
Be smart folks... acting like you’re unafraid is so not sexy right now.
#flattenthecurve. Stay home folks... and share this to those that just are not catching on. 🤓
You can copy and paste to share.

It's because final filing date for 2018 tax returns was Oct 15. 2019, just a bit over 5 months ago. That is the latest complete info the IRS has on file. From what I have read, the top end cut off is $198K for a couple filing jointly.

Yep, we made the most money that we have ever made in 2018. In 2019, we are both retired, trying to bridge the gap until Social Security and Medicare kick in.

Purportedly from a Doc at John Hopkins.... Marty, if I could find proof that this is from a doctor at Johns Hopkins, I would pass it around. But this article has no name attached to it and there is no link to where it came from. I agree that CV-19 came from animals and I suppose it could mutate into something worse. But I don't put a lot of trust in anonymous articles. This article might not be entirely true and it could aid in spreading the panic. So, unless I find proof that it's from a Johns Hopkins doctor who knows what he's talking about, I can't bring myself to share it.

Can’t help you on the source and to be quite honest I don’t give a fuck who wrote it. I believe the information to be valid from what I have learned so far. What I am realizing today is that we are brutally, horribly and completely fucked. The horses are out of the barn.

Things like that need to have names on them and come from reliable sources. I'm envisioning you running around in circles, screaming and pulling your hair out over this. I'm still more worried about the panicking than I am about the virus. You seem bent on encouraging the panic.

They were the ones who actually grasped the gravity of the situation early.

And they were creating problems for the rest of us. They were also spreading the virus. How can you not see that? I'm glad you're not in a leadership position. Your logic is insane.

No, I am realistic and I understand a few things about the human animal. Survival instincts are strong in people. Not one person on this planet other than possibly your immediate families gives a single rats ass over your life versus theirs. While the run on TP and groceries was going wasn’t there also a run on guns and ammo? Why the fuck would someone need ammo to combat a virus? They don’t. They actually think they need to be armed to the teeth in case it comes to that. Now that to me is lunacy but this event is so much bigger than I think you are comprehending. This will very likely change the entire world in a very significant way. We all thought “hey things are pretty good. We’re pretty safe.” Then this.

This will very likely change the entire world in a very significant way. We all thought “hey things are pretty good. We’re pretty safe.” Then this. You know we've been through this before, right? As in, recent history? Look up the 1918 Spanish Flu. I've seen articles from that time period which read as if they're written today. Cities closing, people told to stay home, everything. How much has Spanish Flu affected your life today? And that was way, way bigger than COVID-19 is.
We will adapt and overcome. A few years from now, this will be a faded memory for most.
Please. For your sake and ours, turn off the television, log out of Facebook, and find a nice spot to read some books for the next few weeks. If it IS the end of the world, that's a better way to go out anyway.
