My iMac has just spontaneously rebooted. The error rport included the fact that it had been up for 1279106758730055 nanoseconds.
14.8 days, apparently.

Am I going stark raving bonkers, or has the Christmas card topic been deleted?

The Christmas card list got me wondering, has anybody heard from. Judy? I've thought about calling but I seriously doubt I'm high on her list of people to talk to.

Sheesh, these boards have suddenly gone awful quiet. Y'all suffering from post-election apathy?

Post-election apathy, Covid apathy, just not doing very much. Waiting out the season finale of the Trump show.

Wondering how Trump will cave. Also thinking he's quit dying his hair and will he wash his face!

I've been busy playing with my old PC that is now a new Linux PC. Dodgy USB ports and networking issues make for blah blah blah blah.

I have been back and forth to the hospital. My 92-year old father-in-law that lives with us was admitted to the hospital and has been there for a week now. His knee swelled up and he couldn't walk. He doesn't do anything and just sits. He doesn't want to drink anything otherwise he would have to get up an pee. He most likely has had leukemia for about a year now but they won't give him chemo or do a bone marrow transplant. Those solutions would most likely kill him. Instead he gets monthly Human Growth Hormone (HGH) shots (the are expensive around $10K to $15K a piece based on the number of units he gets). The idea is to raise his hemoglobin count above 10. You and I have a count around 13. His count at best has been 9. So when they admitted him to the hospital his count was down to 6.7, and he was dehydrated. He refuses to drink. So the hospital gave him two transfusions, and IV fluids. The doctors chastised him for not drinking and being weak. He can't walk 10 feet without getting winded. Therefore they are making him go to a rehab center to live, exercise, and get stronger.
While he is in the hospital he got a touch of pneumonia and a slight fever, oh and a flare up of gout. So, they put him on antibiotics and prednisone. He is supposed to be moved to a rehab center and live there to strengthen him. He was supposed to be transferred Friday but the fever pneumonia put a stop to that. He is supposed to be transferred today to a different facility since he lost the spot in the other facility due to his fever (he does not have covid - he hasn't been anywhere so it would be almost impossible to get it unless from hospital staff). Once he moves into the facility we will NOT be able to visit him. We can only drop off clothes and goodies to him. The sad thing is I said to him Dad, our house is 55 feet walk from side to side a few times and do that everyday. After a week add some more times and in a month or so you will be strong. I even bought him three pound dumbbells to use for his arms. He refuses. He weighs around 200 lbs, and is not fat at all. He was a city of Pittsburgh Motorcycle cop and was always super active. Now he hasn't really moved out of the recliner for three years now. Forcing him into a facility to get stronger is the best thing for him. I expect he will be there at least a month and miss Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I know that was long winded but dealing with this, year-end deadlines at work, and finishing up some University classes in Cyber Security has kept me from posting a lot more.

Over in the Games topic, I have posted a quite famous picture of the British Marines 'Yomping' across the Falklands in horrendous conditions, because they lost most of their transport helicopters when the cargo ships carrying them got sunk.
There's a little known story, I only heard recently, that one particular company was really struggling to make progress, carrying over 100lbs of weapons and ammo per man, over tough tussocky grassland at night, when they came across a Falklands farmer who asked them why they were walking. When the men told her, she said something along the lines of "You bloody fools. We've worked this land for hundreds of years. Why didn't you ask us? Wait there." Half an hour later an eclectic collection of land-rovers, 4x4 buggies, jeeps, tractors and trailers appeared out of the darkness. The farmers asked the men if they knew all the paths and tracks from there to Port Stanley. Getting a negative answer, they all insisted on driving their own vehicles into the battle, right up to the point where rounds were incoming. At this point, they unloaded all the soldiers and kit, then waited a couple of hours while the battle raged, then collected up the dead and injured and evacuated them back to the aid stations.
Apparently this story was never widely reported, because the men didn't want the rest of the army (Guards/Paras/Gurkhas etc.) to think that they had somehow 'cheated'.

Here you go frodi, have this one on me. I honestly thought you were going to get whitewashed, but you seemed to find some extra reserves at the end. We still whopped your arses though.

This is the nearest I'll get to a proper pint for now. Too many key players missing and new ones being blooded. Throw in a new coach who still has to find his way. I have to say that England weren't too impressive either. They seemed willing to sit back and leave Ireland have the possession. Maybe it's just rustiness after Covid lockdown. The Argies or the Pumas could open them if they keep trying that.

Want to learn a new language? Spend your lunch hour watching Car Crash videos, and by the afternoon you'll be able to say "You f...ing c..t" in twelve different Russian dialects!

Was it in his blog post? Something like “Yeah still just a buncha stupid-fuckers” or something like that. Maybe he’s too afraid to name names. Though when he logged in in Spring he did leave a few profanity laced, kinda inchoerent posts (ie drunk as a skunk) that I happened to see but disappeared by the next day.

I don't think it's often that he's not drunk as a skunk. Well, it is Thanksgiving, which is my favorite holiday. I don't know why I'm so depressed today.

I don't think it's often that he's not drunk as a skunk. The amount of driving that he does, one would hope otherwise.
