This probably belongs in Best of General Bullshit but I can't start a new thread there. If the forum godesses feel that it belongs there could they move it please.
A six part story of what was probably Ireland's most prolific serial killer. Judge for yourself. I listened to it on RTE over the Easter weekend. The radio was on in work as I worked behing closed doors and then as I worked in the shed on Monday.
I found it to be absolutely engrossing.
I won't put up any spoilers but you will find yourself wanting to listen to the end.
Just to give you a feel here's a youtube of Christy Moore singing the theme song.

I listen to a lot of podcasts. Almost entirely true crime.
Casefile is my favorite. Invisible Choir is a close second. The Minds of Madness.
Those three cover cases in one or two episodes a piece.
True Crime Garage gets an honorable mention as they're based in Columbus and they got me into the genre. However, I got fed up with the antics of one of the hosts and don't listen as often.
Hunting Warhead was a great mini series put out by CBC Radio that dove into takedown of a global pedophile network.

Not sure if this says anything about me but, I have never listened to a podcast in my life.

I remember when they started, you had to have an iPod. I never had an iPod, and I never bothered finding out how to access on a computer.

If you have an iPhone then you do have and iPod too just for clarification.
I listed to a few way back and then tried a few again a couple of years ago but not really interested in going hunting for content when I’m normally busy enough as it it.

I don't know if they're available outside the UK because of licensing issues, but, if they are, you can download Professor Brian Cox's and Robin Ince's The Infinite Monkey Cage podcasts from the BBC Radio 4 website. They are very funny and interesting looks at a huge range of scientific subject www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bf56gr

I do have a classic iPod that has 160 GB storage. I have only used 30 GB to date with 3064 songs on it. My classic iPod does not have WiFi or anything like that. I have to use the old 30 pin(?) connector.
I seriously doubt I will ever fill up my iPod before I die. Although that is my goal!

At one point, I had close to a TB worth of music, would have been much higher had I not foolishly reduced the bit rate to save disk space. I lost the drive the music was on. Don't miss it with unlimited data and YouTube.

Just for clarification, are you using "iPhone" to refer specifically to the Apple product, or as a generic for any smartphone? I have never owned an Apple product, I use Android. After what iTunes did to my audio files and some non-audio files, I can't see me using any Apple product.

These are in FLAC format and have full cd quality and bitrate. I've owned an Ipod nano; but was forced to use Itunes to load it. Itunes wanted to take things over on my PC and I made it go away, along with the Ipod. Go figure, these days my laptop is a Macbook pro. It's a very nice laptop; but I don't let it any where near my music collection. Itunes doesn't recognize FLAC format, so it ought to be safe. I've listened to the occasional podcast on my pc. If I'm sitting down to listen to something, it's generally music.

If you have an Android you’d have an MP3 device or whatever they use for format.

My iPod does have iTunes downloaded files but the majority of my songs are from CDs that I own that I put on my iPod. I miss the old liner notes. I only download entire albums not individual songs. I do that because that is how I always bought music years ago, the entire album. So, I wonder does copying CDs to the iPod take up more space. I question this because Stan said he has 715 MB with 24,0000 songs, whereas I have 3064 songs and 30 GB used.

well, he had a geek fail for a moment. It's 715GB at least. When you rip a CD into MP3, with every app I've tried, you can set your own bitrate, which impacts the file size. I used to reduce my file sizes because storage wasn't anywhere near as cheap as it is now.

The default is a lower “sample rate” I think the term is. There is an option for an “Apple Lossless” format or something similar which would use more space. CD’s are not even as complete as LP vinyl records were. MP3’s are typically lower quality than CD’s. Stan mentioned that he uses a very high file format so yes the same number of songs would take considerably more space.

I used to reduce my file sizes because storage wasn't anywhere near as cheap as it is now. Ya, it's GB. 1 cd (6-700MB) into FLAC is about 350MB. FLAC is lossless, it's like compressing a spreadsheet and being able to recreate the original numbers. MP3 is lossy, it's more like an approximation. There's lots of argument on where you can hear the difference. I avoid that by keeping the best possible copy. Hard drives and SSD are cheap. I use FLAC because it is lossless and because Apple and Itunes do not recognize it. Avoids the issue of Itunes taking over. Apple lossless is ALAC, they took a non-proprietary format, changed 1 bit, and made it proprietary. Apple lossy is AAC, again 1 bit different than MP4. Cause ... they're Apple. For what it's worth, if you like geezer rock and blues, have a 1Tb drive laying around, and don't mind dealing with FLAC (drivers and such), PM me. Off-site backup and all.

At this point, I'm not even sure if my laptop would boot. I'm still enjoying the Chromebook life over here.

Stan,
Most of my music is OLD geezer music. I guess they would call it Classic Rock.
