The folk across the road found "a grenade and some ammunition" in their cellar.

Rather than sully the “He’s Dead Jim” thread I’ll post here. Frank Bonner. The hilarious Herb Tarlek.
Funny thing is that my late Father-in-law had similar wardrobe items with Herb. He wore a plaid blazer, white slacks and white patent leather shoes and belt to our wedding rehearsal.

I know a number of you are keen bikers, I've just come across this 10 min film about the Isle of Man TT races. (Put it on a big screen and turn up the volume). As you can see, they are run over normal roads, both out in the boon docks and through town centres. The course is 37 miles and the average speed, AVERAGE speed is 135 mph. Get it wrong and you either fall off a mountain or hit a stone wall. When they built a new hospital, I fitted it out with all the electronics in Theatres, ICU and Emergency department, it opened on my 45th birthday in 2003. The next year 4 riders died. Numerous others crashed and were saved at that hospital. "Your monitoring system worked brilliantly, Malcolm. But we only have two helipads. We need more". They got a third one.

If anyone suggested a new race like the TT these days, they'd be laughed out of the room.
It started with bikes that could make perhaps an average of 50mph around the course, but, as you mention, modern bikes are now two and a half times as fast and there is simply no room for error.
It's averaged over one death per year in the official races and that doesn't include "Mad Sunday" where anyone with a bike is allowed to try their skill against the Mountain Course, many of whom end up riding beyond their abilities
It's great that they have all the medical facilities you mention, but, someday, someone's going to say "enough"...

It's really amazing the race still happens. Isn't it the deadliest form of motorsport? 60MPH seems to be the sweet spot for my bike. Without paying attention, that's usually the speed I'm at most of the time. Above 70 it really fights back. I don't think I've had it over 80, and that was with a tail wind going down hill.

Road racing in Ireland (north & south) is also run on normal roads. Not quite as fast as the TT but equally deadly. Look up the North West 200 or the Skerries Races Or Dr John Hinds "Cases at the races", he was subsequently killed in a bike related accident.

In my opinion, it's very dependent on the bike. My wife's bike does 90, but it gets a bit scary above 80. My BMW is comfortable and stable at 135, that's just the top speed for the driver. 100 is about the spot where I notice "gee, I'm going kinda fast".

I forget what bike you ride, but my Yamaha FZ6 Fazer can easily do a constant 90mph (actual as measured on the GPS, rather than the 100 indicated on the speedometer which reads 10% over).
The fairing deals nicely with the wind blast and (on the Thruxton track) I've had it up to an indicated 127mph which is probably 115 in actuality.
The theoretical top speed is 141mph, but I've never tried to push it that far...!

Ah, ok, a V-Twin cruiser, that explains the issues you have.
Of course in most parts of the US you have a distinct lack of twisty roads (not to mention filtering being illegal) to make anything else worthwhile

Multiple reports cite McAfee's death as being a suicide (with Covid Morbidities?) after Spain ruled in favor of an extradition request to send him back to the states to face charges of tax evasion.

Even if it was suicide, if he had had a positive test within 28 days, that counts as a Covid death.

I have seen memes saying "McAfee did not uninstall himself." I saw some screenshots yesterday. One was an older Instagram post that showed him showing support for Epstein. Another was just the letter Q, which was posted shortly before his Instagram account was taken down.

The condo building collapse in Florida is absolutely horrific. I can’t imagine being one of the tenants sleeping when your world….implodes (I guess that is the right word). I feel terribly for all those innocent people. apple.news/AbvE2S31rSLOadhUE83gBwg

It is horrendous Marty. I can't imagine what the problem could be. It was built in the 1980's, so you would have thought any structural weaknesses would have been visible by now. Cracks in walls or floors or something. But there has been no reports of any explosion. You expect this sort of thing in, let's say, "Third World" countries, we've all seen the pictures of walls filled in with empty paint tins and so on. Now I know that Miami isn't exactly crime-free, but any building not to code should have been spotted by now.

OK, that report hasn't reached across here yet. 2mm per year since the 90s? That's a lot.

And it was built on reclaimed land (filled in the sea to make more space for building stuff) wasn’t it?

I saw something that said it was built on a sand bar. I've also seen speculation that the failure may be due to corrosion as the face that fell off is facing the ocean. However, there was a video clip from some of the residents describing the basement or underground garage as filling up with water. I doubt there's going to be a single point of failure.

In which case there must be many other buildings with some or all of the same potential faults. They might have to evacuate the whole area!

I usually have the radio on in the background in work. This morning on come "Heal the pain" by George Michael. I have that album at home I says to myself. I haven't listened to it in a long time probably because I never burned it to my PC where most of my music now resides. So this evening I dug out faith and Listen Without Prejudice and am currently listening to them while they burn onto the PC. I forgot just how good he was.

Not that this is apropos to anything other than I find it interesting. When I was taking my environmental science classes our professor gave us a link to the current population of the world. It is constantly changing but it does show more births than deaths. World Population
