Well, one of your favourites, a 0-0 draw! We certainly made heavy weather of that, but a point is a point and we still lead the group. I'll tell you something though, if I'd paid £100 for a ticket, £1000 for a flight and £175 a night for a tent in a desert, I'd be very, very pissed off. And that is why I don't like soccer; a zero to zero tie. Why not decide the game with an overtime period? Or, if the players are too tired then a series of penalty kicks per side. Think about it the final score was exactly the same score before the game even started.

When I click on the link it says the content is not available in my location! Hmm, sorry. It appears that all the videos I can find are under the auspices of the BBC. Try googling "Welsh keeper red card" and you should find it.

Why not decide the game with an overtime period? Because there isn't any need to. Why must you have a result? If the two teams were equally matched, it's a fair result. If the two teams weren't evenly matched but the weaker side held on, then they deserve a point and the better side deserves to 'lose' two.

Oh dear, Marty, looks like your boys are on the plane home soon. At least next time, they won't need to get a plane home.

It reminds me of everybody gets a trophy for participation. Why would I pay money, travel to a game, spend more money at the game, refreshments and such, to not have a winner? It would be a total waste of my time. Again, this is exactly why I think soccer will never catch on here big time in the US. I do understand there are a lot of teams here and in Pittsburgh they just opened up a huge complex for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer team. But, it will never be as popular as football or even baseball (and the Pirates are terrible).

I understand that but I still want a winner and a loser not a tie. But if both teams played equally well, is it not fair to share the spoils? Surely you watch a game to enjoy the sport, to appreciate the skill and artistry of the play and the tactics of the manager. If all you want is a winner, you can read the result in tomorrow's paper.

I don't think there should be any sharing of the spoils. Someone should win otherwise don't play the game. Penalty kicks after regulation should be the way to go. I think the game of soccer is boring. The only time I ever appreciated soccer, or thought it wasn't boring is when I played goalie years ago. Even then when a lot of the action was done the other end, which was good for our team, I would think to myself this game is boring. I would be begging at times for some shots on me. The back and forth midfield play with no shots on goal drove me nuts and still does today. Now, the most exciting soccer I ever watched was when the Pittsburgh Spirit played indoor soccer on basically a hockey rink. Now that was exciting to watch. In fact between 1983 through 1986 I attended more soccer games than Pittsburgh Penguin games. I think I attended 24 soccer games or more and only about 12 hockey games during that same time period. Oh and what the heck is up with riots in Belgium after a loss to Morocco? That seems insane to me.

The point of playing a game isn't to have a good time, it's to win. Not sure what the point of watching someone else play a game is, though.

I read today that the Chinese broadcaster is transmitting the football about 50 seconds behind the rest of the world. This is so that they can edit out any close-up shots of fans without masks.
Now, come on Southgate, get your team to play properly this time. You've got twenty minutes.

Well, that was fun, wasn't it?
Bye Bye Wales
"You're going home in the morning" sung by the England fans (to the tune of I'm Getting Married In the Morning).
And the USA are through as well.
Well mank, you'll get your wish now, all games have to be played to a result.

I just watched England v Wales. The 1st match that I watched this time round. Even though England won (deservedly) they were crap. When they come up against some proper teams they look like that they will be trounced. Hopefully the knockout stages will bring some bite into the games.

question - why do they keep the clock running? Like why don't they stop it for a hurt player instead of adding time in on the end?

It's just the way it's always been done. Before modern electronic timekeeping there was a large stadium clock. The referee would start the game at 3pm and then after 45 minutes, decide guess how many minutes had been lost to injuries, substitutions and goal celebrations, and play them. (Plus an extra few minutes if Alex Ferguson was managing one of the sides and wasn't winning).
In a typical match this would only be 2-3 minutes per half, unlike American Football where the game stops after just about each play, and the 'time added on' becomes about half an hour.
Having said that, this year, FIFA have somebody else counting up the wasted time and as a result, added time has been up to nine minutes per half.

Sounds like it was a thrashing. I didn't watch it, but according to my newspaper this morning, it wasn't a classic. The Dutch played functional football, just enough to win.

Well, 30 minutes of crap followed by 55 minutes of brilliance followed by 5 minutes of panic.
Still, we're through.
Apportez les grenouilles.
One thing I have noticed this year, is the relatively old age of the England supporters. Most people who were willing to go to a very expensive country with hardly any alcohol were middle-aged, and older, men!

It looks as if Brazil are good for a place in the final. They breezed past Korea while Croatia had to go to penalties against Japan.

Now perhaps we can get back to the important business of finding out who in FIFA Qatar bribed to get the World Cup and just how many workers died.
