Things you need to understand. No one has any built in immunity to this disease. That is reason 1 why it is worse than seasonal flu. Mank, by the time you knew you had Covid you may have been spreading it for 2 weeks without symptom. So your FIL would probably have been exposed before you knew you were sick. This is worse than seasonal flu because of the number of people who would require ICU/CCU hospital care at the same time. The needed resources just don’t exist. If nobody could die from this, if it was just a sniffle for a few days then the best thing would be for everyone to get it quickly and be done with it. That is NOT the case. The “best” option is to isolate aggressively to SLOW the spread so the health care system can keep up on demand for critical care. Marty, I know nobody has immunity to this. People don't have immunity to most viruses. People die from flu too. I just think this is way over hyped. I did see a woman near Seattle got the first vaccine shot. Going to the hospital for Coronavirus does nothing. I know I have heard this over and over and over, call your doctor, don't go to the hospital. If you are sick and think you have it quarantine in place. And I will say the media has made it worse and have created panic. Not surprised you are in denial. There are very few hospital beds in the US per capita. Even fewer ICU/CCU beds. The people who get sickest will need those. Unabated there will be multitudes more who need critical care than there is capacity to treat them. Then it is up to you to decide who lives and who dies of the critically ill. Are you willing to walk around and choose who will die? The numbers on this disease are clear. Don’t compare it to a normal flu where portions of the population have immunity from previous infection or because they got the flu vaccine. The regular flu is seasonal. There is NO clear indication that this one is. The media is making a panic because it should be a bit of a panic. Unabated 245 Million Americans will contract the disease. Of those 12,250,000 might die. Or it might be worse because you don’t have the capacity to care for the number of critically ill people. But no, this is “fake news” and you should just carry on about your business as normal.

The media is making a panic because it should be a bit of a panic. Panic is dangerous. If some people have all the food and supplies, the rest of us could starve and get sick. Panic can lead to poor decisions and chaos. Panicking is never the answer.

It’s not on Jim. But I am definitely looking for reliable info. If anyone thinks this won’t be (already is actually) a global disaster has their head to far up their own ass.

Oh, it will be. I just don't see the point in worrying about it. It's looking more likely that most of us will be infected at some point. I'm accepting those risks and moving on. Something has to kill us, eventually.

Something has to kill us, eventually. Again, that is NOT the problem with this virus. Your hospitals will get so overwhelmed they won’t be able to function for ANYTHING if the spread of the disease is not slowed down. If it were as simple as letting the whole planet be sick for 2 weeks and moving on don’t you think everyone would just agree that we should just do that?

Your hospitals will get so overwhelmed they won’t be able to function for ANYTHING if the spread of the disease is not slowed down. That would be one reason why it's important that people not panic.

If they didn’t scare people about how serious it is how many would be taking the isolation seriously right now? Almost none is the correct answer.

Yup. Survival instincts are kicking in big time for some people. I thought you wanted to stop the spread? When did I say I didn’t? That was a simple observation of how some people are behaving when faced with something frightening.

Yup. Survival instincts are kicking in big time for some people. I don’t think it is survival that is kicking in, it is panic and mindlessness. And, in a few cases, cunning greed, like the brothers in Tennessee who cleaned out stores in several towns around them of hand sanitizer, to resell on Amazon for stupid profit.

Marty,
How in the hell do you get I am in denial? I never said that. I say it is overblown. Over and over we have been told people recover from this old people are at risk. In Pittsburgh at least they want us to use Doctor on Demand apps and not go to the doctor. They have set up drive up testing places but if you have no symptoms why get tested? Right now you need a prescription to get tested after you might have symptoms but it could be just the flu, not coronavirus. That is what some of the testing here has shown. And Marty I think those numbers are ridiculous. How do you come up with almost the entire population of the USA will get the virus? Your number of 5% of the population dying is higher than anything reported anywhere. Go to the Johh Hopkin's website. There are only around 223,000 cases (I rounded up) world wide now. We have been told over and over to quarantine in place if you are sick. Also, a woman in Seattle received the first vaccine for the virus.
People will get sick. Some will die. Most will recover. Panic is not needed now and that is exactly what is happening.

CDC is telling us that 40% of people in the 20-54 YO age bracket are requiring hospitalization to recover. Saw further report that post recovery there is also indication of reduced lung capacity/effectiveness too.

Marty,
After reading all of your posts I guess I think you are worried. I am not. I did find it a bit amusing though about the ibuprofen. From the article and a Canadian researcher, "However, a Canadian drug safety researcher said people who currently take ibuprofen to manage other conditions should not stop doing so." Don't you trust your fellow Canadians? LOL
And, on the isolation front I have enough food in my pantry and a second freezer we have that would probably last 5 to 6 months. Although, I have seen in the Pittsburgh area the panic has subsided somewhat. Stores seem to have plenty of meat and even toilet paper. I don't understand the toilet paper hoarding at all but people are nuts.
On the conspiracy side of things, it seems the media has easily manipulated a lot of people. That is what scares me the most.

Where did I say I didn’t trust the Canadian researcher. What ought to scare you the most is the world economy grinding to a dead stop. But make no mistake. It will happen one way or another. Either because we volunteer to do it to try and save lives or we say fuck the millions who will die and get it over with.

Marty,
(Joking here) Sometimes we just have to thin the herd and follow Darwin's theory of the survival of the fittest.

I'll call bullshit on the warning about Ibuprofem and Covid. It's based on one trial in France which was not validated. Paracetamol is still first line followed by ibuprofen.

I'm 81 and "portly" with high BP under control with meds. They diagnosed the first case in my home town and I'm decided I'll have about 10 days of staying in. I may get bored stiff but think it's best for me.
