marty, it's a local rag trying to make a sensational story out of nothing.
Read the article. Nobody is going to get fined for wearing winter clothing, they will be done though if they are wearing clothes such that they are not in proper control of their vehicle. It's no use being nice and warm if you then crash because you can't drive properly.

I agree with Malcolm, it's a total non-story.
Notice where that it says "could" not "will", it's a simple page filler designed to get people feeling outraged, but unless you're trying to drive in snowshoes and mittens, it's incredibly unlikely that anyone will ever fall foul of this.

Did you also notice how the fine drops from £5,000 to £100, and only jumps to £1,000 if challenged in court & the driver loses?

Nobody should have to wear a helmet if they don't want to. The risks are known.

Whilst I agree with that (even though it's stupid), I have to wonder if his girlfriend was not wearing a helmet out of choice or whether he might have pressured her into it...

For all you know, it might have been his girlfriend that was pressuring him.

I totally get their concern. A puffy coat may interfere with the seatbelt. If you don't take the time to get your long coat arranged properly under you, it can be twisted and bunched in a way that restricts your arm movements. A bulky coat can also act as a damper to the steering wheel's movement. I think this is not so much a primary reason for stopping someone, but if it's found that your winter wear was a cause of your infraction, then the fine will be added.

We had quite a discussion last month about American football not really being played anywhere except in the USA and Canada. I said it wasn't played over here because we didn't have any stadia. Whoops, sorry, I lied. I have just come across this: The BAFANL (BAFA National Leagues) are the primary American football domestic League competition in Great Britain. The League is run by the British American Football Association to coordinate contact football within England, Scotland and Wales. Apparently the current champoins are the Manchester Titans and they play in a speedway stadium. I can't find any attendance figures, but the photos show a small stand only half full. One game in 2014 had a crowd of 1300. I have lived here for over 50 years and have never heard of them.

Malcolm,
There is another NFL game this upcoming Sunday in Germany.
I do have another question after some google searches I see that a soccer field is larger than an American football field. So, I am confused why a football game cannot be played on a soccer field. Maybe you mentioned why it won't work but I forgot.

I run a pub quiz every Sunday. Last night I asked the question "What sport do the Manchester Titans play?". No-one knew the answer. When I told them, the general opinion was "I never knew we had an American Football team". There is another NFL game this upcoming Sunday in Germany. but I bet it is between two American teams, isn't it? It's not USA -v- Germany is it? I think I have asked previously, who do you play your international games against? Canada? Mexico?

why a football game cannot be played on a soccer field. Both pitches are 100 yards long but then you have two 'end zones' which a soccer pitch doesn't usually have. Admittedly,, there are one or two grounds that can accomodate them, because some grounds are intended to be an athletics stadium as well so they have a 400m running track built into the design. There is also an issue with squad sizes. Your football team might bring 45-50 players on any one day, I understand; they all need a changing room space. A soccer team never has more than 16, 11 starters and 5 substitutes. I don't know, but I presume that if you have three times as many players, you have three times as many coaches, physios, kitmen, etc. I'm not sure that most English soccer stadiums would be able to cope with the crowd's requirement either. Most soccer matches last about 105 minutes, so a drink beforehand, and a drink at half time is acceptable for most people. But your games last 3 hours, I believe. Now I am sure our grounds could cope with the liquid refreshment needed, they certainly don't have the ability to serve three hours of food. the best you can hope for at most British grounds is an over-priced, tepid meat pie.

NFL plays it’s own rules in the US and CFL has its own in Canada. Even the field sizes are different. If there is such a program it is about as well known as your Titans are. Once upon a time there used to be a sort of “All-star” exhibition match between NFL and CFL players but it was rather one-sided as the NFL is the elite of the elite in the sport.

Remember to vote early and often today.
For whatever reason I was sent two mail-in ballots weeks ago and so was my wife. I, nor my wife, never requested mail-in ballots. It irritates me because you are only supposed to get those if you requested the mail-in ballot.
I am not sure I would trust the post office anyway to get the ballot where it was supposed to go or on time. I mailed a set of labels with names for a friend of mine to another person for a reunion. I mailed it from my suburb to a location in Pittsburgh literally 13 miles from my home. I mailed it from the post office with a clerk for the proper postage and first class. It took over 17 days to get to he location. That was three days after they were needed. On the day of the reunion I printed another set of the labels and drove them to my friend's house the morning of the reunion. Bottom line I wouldn't trust the post office to get my ballot where it was supposed to go on time.
A friend of mine always comments put $500 in an envelope and mail it to yourself. Do you expect it to ever receive it? Would you take that chance? And, if you wouldn't he says then why trust them with your ballot.

I was watching an episode of Midsomer Murders when I heard a voice I KNEW. I mean, I KNEW that voice, but I could not place it. The face was vaguely familiar, but I definitely did NOT know not the name, or nor where I knew the voice. I hit IMDB, and had to look for the character's name. Once I saw his filmography, I was like, "Oh, duh!"

All my bills seem to arrive just fine.
Colorado allows me to track my ballot. If I opt in (and I have), they email me when it was mailed, when they get it back, and when it was counted. Never had an issue.

Happy Thanksgiving to those south of our border (or in Alaska or Hawaii).
I was just thinking how much I missed some of the discussions and debate we used to have around here.

A lot of Americans like to say that our Canadian health system isn’t very good and wait times are terrible. Just had to say this. I saw a shoulder surgeon on Tuesday and he of course wanted an MRI to get a really good look at it first.
The MRI is this Friday. Pretty fast by almost any account. I had expected them to tell me January at the earliest. Works for me.

I have not but I don't watch a lot of news. It's also on the other side of the state and the Detroit stations don't cover much from over there. That being said, that's a LOT of damage.
