This Thanksgiving is going to be extra special, because Americans can spread disease to each other just like the original!

Had a chat with another fellow Canuck who lives in China. I noticed their numbers for Covid are barely above what they were in spring. Now China being a communist state did lock the hell down and hard. They have very strict quarantine rules for visitors. You are delivered to a quarantine facility of your choice, basically a hotel, that is basic, nicer or resort level. They test you twice while there and twice after release. People in China have an app on their pone with their status on it. If you can’t show a green badge you can’t go into a public building. Yellow, gotta go get tested and red gotta quarantine.
China still shows having only had around 86,000 cases in total since the start. While I would like to know for certain this is for real it seems pretty impressive. If things were amok over there the news would get out to the rest of the world.
So by following strict rules they’ve kept the virius that started there at bay while the rest of the world just can’t seem to handle it.
Interesting.

From him, first hand he knows no one who has had it. He was recently tested and the nurse told him there were only a couple of patients. I agree, Marty, it looks bad. But it is just a bare statistic. Are they testing more? If they have inceased their testing by three-fold, then the increase is only to be expected.
I still maintain the best measure is deaths per million of population. Mind you, even that is skewed. In the UK someone hit by a bus will be declared a Covid victim if they tested positive within the last 14 days.
Perhaps we should be measuring the excess deaths over the average for the month.

If it were a comparison from spring I would not be so alarmed. But I don’t think they increased testing 3 fold in just under 2 months. US numbers are soaring at an escalating pace.

Huh. We're cooking 2 birds @ 50LBS total. We have 5 kids. 15 Grandkids. I'm a "high risk". Sandy is a Medium Risk. I haven't slowed down (Actually, my business has picked up, but don't tell the lefties in the cuberment, a Cause they'll stear it). ALL ARE WELCOME.

Looks like no Thanksgiving for my family this year. The older generation wants to get together, but, their kids are threatening to not let them see their grandkids if they even host small gatherings. Looks like pizza and wings for me.
I thought about surprising my mom, but, traffic sucked when I got out of work.

We're having the usual thing at my mom and dad's. Probably just be the nine of us, as usual. I might see if I can get over there early, so I can hunt before the Lions' game.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A good friend of mine's father died today of COVID. He had been in a hospital for 61 days, 51 days of which were on a ventilator. He fought hard, harder than anyone I've ever seen, to stay alive and get back home. Finally his body gave out today. His family is devastated. He was a retired policeman, tough as nails, an amazing friend to all, one of the best people to know.
Michael and I are having a quiet Thanksgiving at home, not going to my brother's house this year. As much as my sister and her girls would love to be here together with family for her first Christmas without her husband/their dad, it is highly likely that they will remain in Texas. Our family cannot deal with any more heartache this year.
Everyone must make their own decisions as to their comfort level with the risk out there. I do not/will not preach either way; I simply wish the very best to all. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, whatever it looks like this year!

Health care workers should get the vaccines first screw presidents getting them.

Health care workers should get the vaccines first screw presidents getting them. I have cynically commented that I would have the vaccine two weeks after the Tory Government had it because, given their utter failure to handle the Pandemic crisis well (or even at all) whilst, at the same time, giving billions of public money to their mates to supply dodgy PPE which is unfit for purpose, I wouldn't put it past them to screw something up with the vaccine as well...

Health care workers should get the vaccines first screw presidents getting them. Nobody said they would get it first. They only said they would do it publicly to help instill the confidence of the public.

Health care workers should get the vaccines first screw presidents getting them. I agree but, unlike Trump, they didn't ask for special treatment. Will you go public for the vaccination to show you believe in it?

This is one of the memes I was talking about. The former presidents stepping up to be vaccinated, whenever, ought to put this shit to rest.

I'm quite happy to let the UK have the vaccine first. They can serve as guinea pigs for the rest of the world!

Here's one of our Sunday newspapers wheeling out a bunch of "National Treasures" to try to persuade (presumably) the older generation that they should take the vaccine...

I’m not terribly concerned about this vaccine actually.

I will get the vaccine when available but there should be no public display by government officials. Screw them and the horse they rode in on, give it to health care workers first.

Mank, How many people do you know that insist they won't get a shot? Try convincing one it's a good idea and leads to herd immunity. That's what the politicians are trying to do. Don't badmouth anyone's efforts just because they aren't Trumpians!

There is certainly some pressure in the UK press for notable persons to be given the vaccine on video - even Her Majesty and Prince Philip. Their age should put them in the first cohort anyway.
