Oh, I don't know. Remember the story about the test-and-trace system that was used by the British government? It had been supplied by a company which used an out-dated spreadsheet programme that could only handle 65,000 entries. When the numbers reached that point, the official infection rates in the UK plateaued. I believe figures of around 10 Billion pounds were said to have been spent. Yes folks, BILLION, for a spreadsheet that didn't work. pharmaphorum.com/news/excel-spreadsheet-blamed-for-uks-covid-19-test-and-trace-woes/

The Irish govt or rather the Dept of Health has a bee in its' bonnet about pharmacists. After announcing a plan in which pharmacists and doctors would administer the covid vaccine they then rolled back and said that only the doctors can vaccinate the over 70's giving some bullshit excuse. This is pure politics. Doctors have for the most part closed up their surgeries for the last 10 months doing phone consultations and emailing prescriptions. The only time they opened up was for flu vaccination when there was near scrums outside the surgeries. This followed a PR campaign by the govt urging everybody to get the vaccine to try and cut down on numbers in A&E this winter. They they made sure that only the doctors could get stock of the vaccine so pharmacists had huge demand but no vaccine. Then today the govt announced a scheme whereby dentists could administer the covid vaccine. This is seen as a sop to dentists who were told to close down their surgeries to all but emergency work last March. They were only allowed to open up again with restrictions a few months ago so most of them have effectively lost 6 months work (and income). It all might be a bit academic as it looks as if the Astra Zeneca vaccine which doctors, pharmacists and now dentists can use won't be available until April at the earliest. In the meanwhile the other vaccine which need deep freeze storage will be used in central settings.

I was just thinking about the vaccination programme when I posted that, but, yes, the Tories have managed to screw up everything else particularly spectaculary...

While I will be glad for people to be able to gather comfortably and people who work in entertainment/non-essential industries will be able to go back to work, but I kinda hope it takes a while longer for everything to relax because it means I'll have to go back to working in the office. The client had to relax their security protocols to allow us to work from home.

My girlfriend's company has already decided, based on what they've been achieving during the Lockdown that people won't need to come into the office for more than three days a week.
Unfortunately I also know someone else whose employers are desperate for them to come back into the office 5 days a week because they appear to have this fear that people working from home just aren't making them enough money...

That's my company in a nutshell. They can't trust their employees to work at home, we've been back since last July.

As I apply for different jobs, I largely avoid remote positions. I do not want a job that can be done remote because if it can be done from home, it can be done overseas. It's nice to have the flexibility once in a while, but, having to go into the office gives me smidge a sense of security.

An alternate perspective might be if they can use WFH employees they don’t have the overhead expense of an office and perhaps makes it less likely they would ship the job overseas?

But, I'd be skeptical. And rightly so. I got laid off twice because labor in India is cheaper. Your best bet for working at home is to find a company or contract that requires US staff.

Such as? I'm desperately looking to get out of my current role. Unfortunately, even the state is using Indian contractors and staffing agencies.

If you were in or near NYC, the law firm I'm contracted to has a couple of IT-type positions open. Yeah, it's WFH for now, but I'm assuming they'll be working in the office when the pandemic dies down.

I and the two kids that still live with me have all gotten both Pfizer Fauci Ouchies. The first shot was a breeze for all of us but the second shot gave us fatigue and muscle aches for the weekend. Other than that, no problems.

I have had both of my shots already. I never felt a thing afterwards. The nurse told me to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. So, I consumed a large quantity of Scotch and never felt a thing.

Some anti-vaxers have convinced themselves that people who have been vaccinated are "shedding" infectious particles *from* the vaccine and are saying that they're going to stay away from them and wear masks to protect themselves! You *really* cannot make this shit up god.dailydot.com/anti-vaxxers-social-distancing/

Excellent! Pretty soon we will all be vaccinated and these nutters will have to stay deep in their caves, (without WiFi) and keep well away from normal people.

Woohoo! All mask restrictions are lifted as well as business restrictions in CT. No more pointless capacity restrictions. No more curfews. No more bullshit.
Back to normal, finally.
