I'm just really jealous of everyone who was able to visit Italy and England and enjoy real food.

Cormac works for a betting company. He tells me this evening that they are starting to take bets on professional wrestling. To make matters worse the "expert" setting the odds doesn't even follow the sport if it can be called that. To use his words he looks at previous results but doesn't follow the narrative. Also because only 2 or 3 people know the script of each fight and on many occasions the outcome isn't decided until a short while before the fight they think that it will remain a secret. While many others see idioticy he sees opportunity. (He has accounts with other betting firms)
Discuss.

When I were a lad, we used to have professional wrestling at our local hall. One night we had a power failure and they had to be called off. The results were still published in the local rag the next day!

Frodi,
I could see the outcome changed based on how much money is bet on one person or another. I know that in professional wrestling the outcomes are pre-determined but it could be easily changed so that the betting firms make money on the match. It seems there could be a lot of shenanigans with that entire scenario.

I've always been under the assumption that most sports have a planned outcome. Sometimes there's an unexpected outcome when things don't go as planned but isn't most of it rigged? I stopped watching racing when it became obvious to me that things were fixed.

Jim, I would be astonished if the vast majority of large sports events in the western world aren't as fair as they can be.

Jim,
I don't think most sports have a planned outcome, Football, baseball, basketball, and hockey come to mind. There are way too many people involved, money bet, etc., etc. for any of those to have a planned outcome. I don't think NASCAR or F1 have planned outcomes either. Again, way too many people and money involved to fix the races so that one driver wins over another.

With all the sponsorship money being throw around you don't think they would rig the outcomes? Professional racing isn't about the racing. It's all about the advertising.

The results were still published in the local rag the next day! Years ago, I was up in town and popped into the Portsmouth Guildhall to use the public toilets there.
They had wrestling on in the evening and when I peeked into the main hall, I saw them rehearsing the "script" they'd be using that evening...!

I've always been under the assumption that most sports have a planned outcome. Professional wrestling isn't a sport, it's entertainment.

The cynical runs deep in this one….. No way are sports “fixed”. Team sports would require too many people to be “in on it” for it not to have leaked for a start. If anyone ever thought “pro-wrestling” was a sport….well they’re probably a Trump supporter still too.

The results were still published in the local rag the next day! I was at a match many years ago that featured a cage match, where to win you had to either climb over the 8-foot high, chain-link fencing surrounding the ring, or walk out the gate in the fence. As they were setting up the cage, I saw someone applying fresh red paint to the tops of the ring posts. Sure enough toward the end of the match Bruno Sammartino ran his opponent's head into the ring post. All of a sudden, the was "blood" on half of his forehead. Then he was run into an adjacent post and now his entire forehead was covered in "blood". The "wounded" wrestler passed out & Sammartino opened the gate & walked out o win the match.

When I was a kid Bruno wrestled all the time at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. The wrestlers would have these capsules that they hid and smash them on themselves as they got hit. The capsules contained a red substance that looked like blood. And, on a side note a friend of mine is working on writing Bruno's biography. My buddy is a huge wrestling fan and wrote articles for years on the various matches. He was a good friend of Bruno.

I seem to recall you mentioned Trump first not me so I think that automatically qualifes as introducing politics. I do find all of this funny and am taking it as light hearted.

I dunno, my sister invited herself over for lunch and a dog walk because it was 102° at her house and 79° at mine. What's the odds of getting 4 dogs to pose at the same time? We call this the tongue picture.

It's not over here, yet. It's Schitzo-Weather month, here. One day you need A/C, the next day heat, and another day you need an ark.
