Okay... I understand you like bad or let's call them campy movies. No, I don't watch camp. Camp movies don't take themselves seriously. I watch bad movies that take themselves seriously, the ones where nobody's in on the joke.

Sometimes I buy movies to rewatch because I was thinking of a scene from the movie. Like recently, I was thinking about the scene in Tin Cup where Romeo was suggesting Roy tell Doreen she's sexy as hell. I'm probably going to get "What's Love Got to Do with It", because I want to see the scene where the hotel took in Tina to help her escape Ike. Although I have maybe fifty different DvDs. I no longer watch them. Nowadays, if there's a movie I want to watch and it's not on Netflix, I'll buy it on Amazon and stream it there. But my Amazon library only has 29 movies and three TV series. Different genres. Can't you find those scenes on Youtube? Probably, but I want to watch the whole movie.

Godfather was good (I have it digital). Haven’t seen the other two. Curious why you would buy a copy of a movie you’ve seen and can just download again? For music I have iTunes family subscription for me, the wife and kids. Arguably I have millions of songs. But in my own list maybe 9,000 songs? I don't download any movies. Where would I download it to, my computer? I watch all of my movies on a 65 inch OLED TV with a surround sound system, Dolby 5.1. I have two huge JBL speakers in the front, a Yamaha center speaker, a Yamaha Sub Woofer and two JBL rear speakers built into the walls in my family room. I like that I can actually physically hold the movie. I know I can own a digital copy through Verizon (my ISP) but what happens if I drop them. I like owning the movie. We also have an iTunes subscription and probably have about a 250 credit on their right now. I have about 3500 songs on my iPod classic and I forget how many songs my wife has in the iTune library itself. Maybe 6000? I am not sure. Oh, and I have learned that not all movies on Netflix are available to be streamed only some are available on Blu-Ray or DVD formats. I hope when they cancel the DVD service in September they add movies to the steaming service; especially old black and white movies that we like. I stream downloaded movies to my 70” Sharp TV with surround sound system via multiiple methods. Apple TV, casting from my iPad or even just hooked up by cable to an HDMI adapter for my iPad. We take my iPad to the cottage and there we can do the same to my Samsung projector with 90” screen. Bigger isn’t better for speakers for sound response so I have smaller speakers but once when I was watching Roger Waters “The Wall” a neighbor came over and asked if I could turn it down. Picture is the 90” screen with Samsung projector watching a Jays game last fall.

I don't download or stream onto my 50 inch TV, that does not have surround sound, and pretty much all I watch on it are sports. Let's show off our TVs, yo.

I'm watching the Railway Man on Amazon while I work on my ADA complaint.
It's one of my favorite movies.

I stream everything from my Roku, which is attached to my TV. Every streaming provider I've ever heard of has an app for the Roku. Cueing up any movie is just a few clicks away. Any movie I want to own can be purchased through iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, or any number of services. The best part is, those movies are available anywhere I have a network connection. Most subscription services also have the ability to download movies for offline watching, such as when flying, as long as you have an active subscription.
Additionally, if I did want to own my collection, I could install Plex on both my PC and Roku and stream whatever video files I own to the same TV's.
Max, Hulu, Youtube, Disney+, Paramount+, Netflix, Pluto, Prime Video, Peacock, are all available.

Jim, I guess I would call Sharknado and Cocaine Bear campy movies since a campy movie portrays things that are ridiculous. Those movies are the definition of campy.

I understand but hooking my computer up to my LG OLED TV isn't necessary in my case since I have HBO MAX, Netflix, and Amazon Prime built into my TV. Using a computer hooked to my TV seems like a pain. Additionally, Verizon FIOS my ISP and cable provider has on demand movies that I could stream if I wanted. I will always buy movies that I like though. As far as sound goes the surround sound setup I have is amazing and will literally vibrate things in the room and your bottom almost as good as being in the theater.

Streaming, while not actually storing the movie is still a download process and you said your TV has that built in. Mine does too of course. It is pretty standard these days. I download to my iPad because until very recently at our cottage there was really poor internet service (barely able to text at times) so if we wanted to watch stuff there I had to have it with me and bringing my iPad that was going with me anyway meant not carting a bunch of DVD/BR’s with us. Likewise on business travel i could watch things I wanted to watch on the plane and not what the airline offered. I do probably have all the James Bond and Star Wars movies on DVD/BR. My front speakers (L/C/R) are Paradigm and my sub and rear channels are Polk Audio. The Polk 12” sub can rattle anything. If we want to get competitive I have a 4000 watt PA system for my band in my basement. That should lift the house off the foundations.

Marty,
My point is I want the DVD (Blu-Ray) Disc. I want something physical in my hand. Streaming is not downloading. I will never download a movie and save a digital copy. On a plane I sleep I never have watched a movie on a plane nor will I ever.

Streaming is indeed downloading though. Po-tay-to - Po-tah-to to some perhaps but if it’s coming down a wire from a server you are downloading even if you don’t save it.

Once again you disagree with me and I disagree with you, who would have guessed. I don't have a digital file saved that IS the difference. I will never save a file. I wonder though, what happens if you buy digital copies of movies from say Verizon and you cut ties with them do you lose the files. I know if I wanted to save a digital file / movie from Verizon it is saved on an area I have access. I would imagine that if I drop Verizon I lose that access even if I have paid for the digital copy. Not that any of this I really care about since I will never be in that situation.

Po-tay-to - Po-tah-to to some perhaps Since we're talking about vegetables now. Do y'all feel that a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable? Personally, I don't care what science says, I say a tomato is a vegetable and should always be categorized as such.

Mank, it's a damn sunny day in Michigan. We ain't that far from Pennsylvania. Why is the Tiger/Philly game postponed? Probably the smoke from the wildfires. I know NYC is under heavy smoke and Jim was reporting it. The people in Watertown at our factory also say it is very bad. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was just as bad in Philly. Jays were able to beat the Astros again today though because the Jays closed the roof on SkyDome so they could keep the smoke out.

I didn't know there were wildfires. Damn. They are in Quebec and Northern Ontario (at least the ones affecting NE US) because the winds are out of the north right now so all the smoke is blowing south. A lot of rain forecast for Monday so hope that helps the situation. It has been very dry up here. Halifax in Nova Scotia (very east coast) had a big problem until they finally got some rain and also Alberta and BC dealing with them too.

It is a little over 300 miles I think to Philly from me. Did it rain yesterday in Philly? I know in Pittsburgh we have been getting air quality alerts due to the wild fires in Canada.

I am teaching Marty that when you download a file you have a file that is saved. When you stream there is no file that is saved. It comes down to one simple question, was there a file saved when you stream a movie on one of your personal devices? The answer is no. Education lesson over.

Not sure many people care about this or even know it has happened, do you have any thoughts on the PGA and LIV Golf merging? PGA and LIVPersonally, I suspected it might have happened in the future since more and more PGA players were leaving the PGA to play in the LIV league since the prize money was a lot higher. The LIV doesn't have cuts and I believe only plays 54 holes. Even the last place player in a tournament receives $120,000. Every LIV tournament has a payout of $25 million. The PGA doesn't come close to that payout per tournament. I know there was outrage by PGA players and some public opinion that players who defected were playing for a country that is ruthless. But, people tend to go where the money is no matter who is providing the paycheck. A local sports broadcaster in Pittsburgh said on the radio yesterday if the Saudis wanted to pay me a "gazillion" dollars to be their broadcaster for events I am going with the money. He also made a good point and said to callers, if they Saudis bought the Pittsburgh Pirates and spent a ton of money on players, like the Yankees, and made them into a championship team, would you stop rooting for the Pirates because the Saudis bought them? My honest answer is I would still root for the Pirates.

It comes down to one simple question, was there a file saved when you stream a movie on one of your personal devices? The answer is no. Education lesson over. Yet both travel through the same pipe. From a Data service provider. Streaming or Downloading: Which Consumes More Data It’s interesting to look at what uses more data streaming or downloading. In some ways, streaming and downloading are basically the same as regards data usage. Both involve sending a file and information to your device. Streaming, in essence, is a form of downloading. The major difference is that streaming lets you play the file immediately, while a download is stored on your device and can only be played after the download is complete. Given the parallels between the two methods the actual amount of data that is transferred is nearly equal, typically. For instance, a video file at 720p would be roughly the same size for either the streaming option or if you were downloading it. Data usage can vary widely depending on the video quality setting choices available for streaming vs downloading. As such, you will use less data if you choose to stream a video at a resolution of 480p vs only having an option to download the same content at 720p. Another major difference in data usage relates to your intended viewing and use of the content. If you are only going to watch a movie or show once and you are online, then streaming can give you instant access to your desired content. If you really love the movie or programme and think you’ll watch it again (or even more), then downloading will use far less data since you’ll only have to pull the content down once. This could apply to both entertainment content as well as educational video clips on YouTube that you many want to reference multiple times.

Marty,
The point is not data usage the point is do you have a file saved on a device when streaming? The answer is no. I know you will never admit you are wrong. A bit of background here I test systems that stream video 24/7 from over 200 plus cameras at nuclear power plant customers and DOJ customers at US Naval facilities. These systems also are part of access control. They don't download they stream. We store all video on remote servers which are recording 24/7 and can be played back. Streaming refers to the act of viewing the content held on a remote server, whereas Downloading is the process in which all of the data is transferred completely, and then viewed.

I think I'm getting faint whiffs of the smoke from Canada's wildfires. Other friends in Michigan have said it's dangerous for them and they're preferring to not go out until the air is clear.
How bad is it for you?

I'm not sure if the winds shifted or what, but, the smoke from fires has been greatly reduced here. The last few days have bene miserable. My eyes were burning and throat's been sore. Having never experienced a wildfire, I've never seen such a strange tint to the air.
Hopefully, the wind trends continue or it starts to rain soon. I have to attend a mandatory outdoor event all day tomorrow. It's going to be cool and damp, at the very least. I really don't want to be dealing with the smoke, too.
