HP made my shit list when they rolled out HP Smart. Makes installing drivers in a locked down corporate environment needlessly difficult. Trying to download drivers outside of the HP Smart system is always a headache. The systems my company sells to nuclear power plants and DOD clients are air gapped. They never touch the internet. We have had an extremely difficult time trying to get licenses for Microsoft, Cisco Switches, McAfee SIEMs, etc. etc. that are not yearly renewal. Every aforementioned vendor wants the license updates to connect through the internet. This has been a logistical nightmare for my company and myself since I do all the testing on our systems and verify all third party software licenses, and certificates.

I rated a few movies in the Best of General Bullshit forum and this made me think of this:
Netflix is stopping shipment of DVDs in September of this year. We have been a subscriber since 2002 to the DVD portion of Netflix on the three DVDs (or Blu-ray) since 2002. In that time we have rented 2213 movies in 21 years with an average of seeing 9 movies a month. We also pay for a streaming service on Netflix. We have both since Netflix has some movies on Blu-ray and others on streaming but not always on both. Personally, we are a bit sad to see the DVD service stop.
On another side note, we do enjoy watching movies at home since I have had home theater system with surround sound for a many years as I can remember. Currently, I have a 65 inch LG OLED TV (thinner than a note pad), with JBL tower speakers, two other JBL speakers built into the walls for rear sound, a Yamaha subwoofer, and a small JBL center speaker. I can crank up the sound for any movie and get the room vibrating. Not quite as good as being at the theater but it is pretty cool.

Good Lord, your justice system is about as slow as ours. 4 1/2 years to prosecute?

I actually applauded this one. Seems a bit of a “tit for tat” example to some of the holier than thou’s. Also Utah has a lot of Mormon population doesn’t it?

I think someone's taking the pi$$.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the bible say to "love your fellow man." sounds a bit too much like promoting gay love to me. Ban it i say.

It seems the Sunbirds are bringing more of Florida to Long Island than just the usual heat & humidity. Now it's their sinkholes!

I was thinking about this after rating some movies. I mentioned in the past we have rented over 2200 movies in 21 years. We own at least 500 DVD movies, some DVD but mostly Blu-ray DVDs I think. How many movies do you own? Are they old VHS tapes? Are they DVDs? Are they Blu-Ray DVDs? Or, maybe you own digital copies of movies now?

How many movies do you own? Four on DVD:
Blade Runner, the Matrix, Highlander and 2001: A Space Odyssey
And I have the Robin Williams version of Aladdin on VHS.
I don't watch many movies these days and those that I do, I wait until they're available on Sky/ Netflix/ Terrestrial.

I have a handful, I think. I hate physical media and can’t think of a single movie I’ve seen that was so good I had to own it.

So few that I could probably name them all. The kids have thew complete Monthy Python set including many of the spin offs. I reared them well. Apart from that the Lord of the Rings and George of the Jungle. We have a fairly complete Disney set on VHS built up over the kiddies young years.

But have had DVD, Blu-ray and Digital. Anything I watch more than once is normally a concert video. The last 3 movies I have watched while traveling were all so weird or cheesy that I’m not very interested in seeing more movies. Last movie I enjoyed watching was the end of the Star Wars saga. Names always escape me so I forget which title it is but they defeat the bad guys in the end. LOL

Not many movies, the Batman series with Christian Bale is one that I can think of off the top of my head.
Music CD's on the other hand, I probably have a couple hundred. Not many compared to some I know but it's a lot for me.

None.

We buy movies that we have seen that we rank a 4 or 5 on Netflix. And, regarding music CDs, we probably own about 300. I miss liner notes and the list of musicians. Downloading music doesn't give you any of that anymore.

Curious why you would buy a copy of a movie you’ve seen and can just download again? For music I have iTunes family subscription for me, the wife and kids. Arguably I have millions of songs. But in my own list maybe 9,000 songs?

What about Shawshank Redemption, or the Green Mile? Or the Godfather? What about them? Shawshank is good but not something I would intentionally rewatch. That's one of those movies I might watch if I see it on TV but not something I would ever think "I want to watch a movie. Shawshank sounds good!" The Godfather isn't a movie I would watch even when bored. I hate mob movies and TV shows in general. The Green Mile is something I fell asleep watching years back and never bothered to watch again. I prefer laughably bad action-adventure movies, stuff that would never win awards. If it was Oscar nominated, I'm uninterested in it without knowing anything else about it. Cocaine Bear and Sharknado are more my kind of movies. Still see no reason to own them. With all of the streaming platforms I have access to, I have no shortage of bad movies at my finger tips.

Sometimes I buy movies to rewatch because I was thinking of a scene from the movie. Like recently, I was thinking about the scene in Tin Cup where Romeo was suggesting Roy tell Doreen she's sexy as hell.
I'm probably going to get "What's Love Got to Do with It", because I want to see the scene where the hotel took in Tina to help her escape Ike.
Although I have maybe fifty different DvDs. I no longer watch them. Nowadays, if there's a movie I want to watch and it's not on Netflix, I'll buy it on Amazon and stream it there. But my Amazon library only has 29 movies and three TV series. Different genres.

I have two huge JBL speakers in the front, a Yamaha center speaker, a Yamaha Sub Woofer and two JBL rear speakers built into the walls in my family room. I like that I can actually physically hold the movie. I know I can own a digital copy through Verizon (my ISP) but what happens if I drop them. I like owning the movie. We also have an iTunes subscription and probably have about a 250 credit on their right now. I have about 3500 songs on my iPod classic and I forget how many songs my wife has in the iTune library itself. Maybe 6000? I am not sure. Oh, and I have learned that not all movies on Netflix are available to be streamed only some are available on Blu-Ray or DVD formats. I hope when they cancel the DVD service in September they add movies to the steaming service; especially old black and white movies that we like.

Okay... I understand you like bad or let's call them campy movies. I get choked up every time I watch The Green Mile. Another movie, which might be my all time favorite is What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams. He literally goes into hell to save his wife whom he loves. The movie also reminds me of how I treated my sons when they were growing up. If you watch the movie Cuba Gooding Jr plays the son in the after life and there is a reason why he presents himself differently to his dad, Robin Williams in the movie. Any movie that gets me choked up we buy. Taking Chance starring Kevin Bacon is another movie that chokes me up... It is about returning a dead soldier to his home town.

Though I don't buy physical copies anymore, because they take up space I like to keep cleared, I understand the preference to own the movie. People have told me, "you can just rent and stream it on Amazon, and save money. You don't have to buy it." I tell them that I prefer to buy it because I'm probably going to watch it again someday.
I'm a guy who rewatches movies a lot, sometimes the same movie multiple times in a row. People don't understand it.
