Very good choice Shell. The empty weight of over two pounds will certainly help with recoil - and that simply means that you will practice with it more and enjoy shooting it more. As small as you say you are, the real and perceived recoil is a biggie. The .38 caliber helps too and allows MANY different types of ammunition. Congratulations, I think you'll like it. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest that you take a CCW COURSE, qualify on the range, and become familiar with your state's laws/regulations. You'll be glad you did just for the information you receive whether you decide to carry on your person or vehicle or not. Good for you and good luck Shell.

I've been to the range with a variety of firearms. A 9mm Glock semi took the skin off my thumb. The .318 proved accurate for about 15 feet, so, hell no for personal protection. A .44 threatened to knock me on my ass and sprain my wrists - I almost dropped it. The .357/.38 revolver was accurate and didn't hurt me. I am small. Today's weigh in was 95 lbs, so that's certainly a factor. I was at least 40 lbs. heavier when I shot the .44. That is not the right gun for me. If I can't control it, someone can easily take it away from me. At that point, I'd be better off with a baseball bat.

What tyres are you using? And what do you mean when you say it "eats" them? Do they eg square off or get down to the wear markers quickly? I'm using Michelin Pilot Road 4 GTs, I've used the 3s previously. The 4 GTs are specifically designed to the BMW RT. I wear out a pair of stripes at 45° on the tire to the point that you can tell that they are, indeed, Kevlar belted. The center of the tread, where most bikes wear, has plenty of tread left. Ye gods, that's a bit different... Ah, ok, I think that's a pretty unique set of circumstances! I normally get about 9-10k out of a rear (was Bridgestone 023, now Bridgestone T30) and double that for a front (023 again) but even the best twisties around here are nothing like you describe. I think you're right, though, it's a price worth paying

Grayson, Clayton, Avie, and Sloan have been here since the wee hours of Wed morning. The reports from home are just power out, trees down across road, and lots of wind debris in the yard. They will stay here till power is restored, then head back to Hilton Head.

I wasn't shot. And even if I had been, it probably wouldn't have done much damage.

Unloaded pellet gun that a student brought to school. Personally, I blame the parents. Still, not getting shot is a good thing.

Shot 88 today at my home course. My best score this year (after some frustration with a bad season), only 1 shy of my personal best and matched my own personal best on the back 9 with a 41. Yes, I am talking golf! Lesson was totally worth it!

The Microsoft based operating system in my car managed to get corrupted a few weeks ago. The dealer had to do a reinstall. My loaner is a Mustang convertible. They are letting me keep it over the weekend even though my car is fixed.

They are letting me keep it over the weekend even though my car is fixed. I had a similar situation back in the 70's. I had just bought a new Ford Tempo, and the dealer has the wrong radio in it. I had picked up the car on a Saturday, but the technician who would change the radio wouldn't be in until the following Monday. I was to bring the Tempo in on Monday and they would give me a loaner for the day. When I got to the dealer they had no loaners left, so the sales manager gave me his T-Bird to use.

I like this Ford dealer more than the Mazda dealer. They won't do loaners, only rentals from Enterprise. When we took delivery of the car, it had a crease in the roof as if it bounced on the carrier and got dented. At the time, we had two other vehicles, so it was more of a shuffle than an absolute pain in the ass. Today, I would be genuinely pissed at having to have someone from the dealer drive me home and then pick me back up when the car was ready.

The first time I went to the USA, there was a cock-up with my rental car. I ended up at a very small rental agency near my hotel who agreed that the compact car I should have had was at the airport in Orlando. "We've only got one other spare car, sir, it's a Mustang convertible. Would you like that instead?" "Same price?" Yes, "Same insurance, covered for all states?" Yes, "No mileage charges?" Yes sir. "Gimme the keys, thank-you-very-much." It went from coast to coast and back in two weeks. Got stopped by the cops twice!

I love those unexpected upgrades. The 3rd best one that I had involved a trip to Arizona. We were traveling with another couple and had reserved a compact car. The rental agent took a look at the 4 of us, plus luggage and gave us a Mitsubishi Montero SUV. Good thing because we were meeting a 3rd couple and never would have fit in the compact.
The 2nd best upgrade was in Florida. We were going to a wedding & traveling with my father-in-law who was in his early 70's at the time. I had reserved a mid-size car for this trip, but the agent looked at my father-in-law & gave us a Lincoln Town Car.
That might have been the best one, except for an earlier trip to Florida. This was back in the days of the Fly-Drive vacation. You rented a car and got a book of hotel vouchers and a list of participating hotels. Then you just drove wherever you wanted to and called the hotel to see if they had rooms. Since it was only the 2 of us (almost) newly-weds, we reserved a compact. The plane got in late and as we were running to the counter, I saw an older couple going there also. I made sure we got there first. Then I find out that they only had 2 cars left. One was a mid-size sedan (which I left for the older couple) and the other was a Camaro.

I went to the Bluff Mountain Rentals Facebook page, and none of their Pigeon Forge properties were affected by the fire. Yay!

I got the PC back. (No more fiddling about with an iPad ) After only 3 hours work I managed a system restore and find all the files that I hid by accident. Then throw in find and restore the Thunderbird and Firefox profiles I'm good to go. Feeling quite chuffed with meself.

So I have been worrying about Char and as it turns out I had her home phone # and Lisa and I decided to call. Got the VM at first but then she picked up! We had a lovely long conversation! So far the creek is in check. At least not a threat. All is good.
Love you Char! Be safe!

I called too, and asked if Char found Bob's hip-waders. (He liked to fish.) See honey? I'm not the only one who worries about you living in the mountains alone! Even if you do have that smoking hot sexy neighbor across the way. And why aren't you dating him, anyway???

Maybe I'm not the only one who was disillusioned. No matter, I'm so glad he didn't call again. The hip waders are gone so I'll have to wear my waterproof boots and hope I don't need to wade out of here.

PC is back. (I won't moan about delivering it to the wrong location, at least B was there to pick it up.) They replaced the audio port and the USB (all part of the one I suspect) and then they re-ind=stalled windoze. I've just spent the best part of 4 hours learning how to restore an earlier image to a raw PC with only one user a/c. A bit of a learning curve but I did it.

HUSKY. Connecticut's version of Medicaid. Effective Jan 1, just waiting on the card...
The fallout from this will be beautiful to witness. Meanwhile, no more delaying or refusing medical care for lack of a $50 co-pay.
No, I don't feel one damned bit guilty, either. It has been made abundantly clear that I have to take care of me, whatever that requires. I've paid taxes since I was 14 years old, and while it hurts my pride a bit, that's better than ignoring medical problems which keep landing me in the hospital.

I found a quart of my homemade chili in the freezer. I ate half, and tomorrow I'll have the rest "Cincinnati Style" (with spaghetti, diced onion and shredded cheddar). Yum...
Roast pork, sauerkraut and mashed for football on Sunday. Double yum.

Six years a go tonight, Bruce became Mr. Chance when he moved in. Even though he would later be dubbed Bat-Dog, Bruce was a terrible name for a dog.

By this time tomorrow I will almost be home! Lisa always had a bit of jealousy of my business travel. Not saying it isn't fun but I miss being home. Met some nice people but mostly none that I'll ever have contact with again. That helps fill the days on the road a bit but I miss being home.
In a rare move (OK, has never happened) tonight when my online check in showed up the upgrade to business class was not insane so I took it. My original ticket had no checked bags included and I have one so net it was really not that much. Bigger seat, more privacy and better food and drink. I'm in.

On another note I finished reading Robbie Robertson's book "Testimony" tonight. An amazing musical journey! Oh to have been around in those years. The Band's "Last Waltz" happened when I was only 11 YO. But their music speaks to me so much and reading his tales on the creation of it was nothing short of amazing!
