Biopsies came back from my eldest daughter's malignant melanoma. The surgery was successful, the margins were good, and she is cancer free. She's got an ugly scar on her scalp and will need to change the way she parts her hair; but she dodged this one.
The new truck is rated for 20mpg city and 28 hwy. I'd hoped to get 27 all around; but expected 25. Last tanks mpg was 26.7. I'm a happy camper.

My last post here was 15 Nov. Since then I've lost another 5 pounds and have only 10 to go. It ain't so bad if you consider starving as a normal lifestyle...
Really, there is SO MUCH food that I can eat but just can work up an appetite. I think my stomach is shrinking - a lot.
I'm now back into my 'skinny' pants and shirts and getting down to that 34" waist again.

Because the day-timer I usually buy was out of stock, I had to dig out the one I used on my last day of work (Dec. 2nd, 2004) I opened the binder and out fell a little card with various passwords and file numbers. One of these file numbers was for Canada Savings Bonds which I have been buying through my paycheck since the early 90s. At first I used to cash them out to pay my tax returns but after a while I only cashed some when life threw us financial curveballs. Then I injured my back, stopped working and stopped getting paychecks in 2007 when I retired. The bonds were forgotten until today.
I went on their website, and they said Canada Saving Bonds could not be purchased since November 2017 and all bonds needed to be redeemed. I punched in the number on my card and there was my file! The email and telephone number on my file was my ex-employer's, my address was my first house... there was no way they would ever have found me! I was able to change all that information and will get my Bonds deposited in my account within 4-5 business days! I had to redeem most of my Bonds before I started getting my pension cheques, but there was some money left (and 10 years of interest) Merry Christmas to me - I get enough to buy a nice new laptop! Whoot!

I managed to get out of the house long enough to get my hair cut and my nails done. Believe it or not, that's a big day for me. I'm sure glad I'm not sitting at the Bengals game with Rich and Kelly. It's cold and drizzling, supposed to change to snow later. I'm watching it online, warm and comfy.

Hell has frozen over, to some extent. This anti-Apple bigot has a personal MacBook. IBM sells used laptops to employees at a serious discount. My old Asus croaked a while ago and the used Lenovo's were either low end or overpriced. My over 40 eyes need a nice display to read easily.
I picked up a refurbished mid-2015 MacBook Pro with 15" Retina screen, I7, 16M memory and a 512G SSD. Overkill for nearly everything I do and I'm fine with that. I still don't care much for the way Apple wants to control everything; but it's a nice piece of hardware.

Oddly, Windows doesn't meet our security requirements; but Linux does. MacOS is just a nice front end for Linux.

I just got a call from the gyn-onc's office, my pathology is back, and there was NO cancer. I just had an unusually large and resilient uterus.

My NAS that contains everything that I care about crashed. I lost a hard drive and a cpu fan (the cpu fan wouldn't spin back up after I turned it off).
Why is this in good news?
My backups were only a couple of weeks old. Raid 5 allowed the NAS to keep running while I copied over 2 weeks worth of updates. I had a fan and spare hard drive laying around. 45 min with a screwdriver and the NAS is repaired. The array is in the process of rebuilding itself; but is 100% functional and usable in the meantime. I lost nothing.
Gotta love it when technology actually works the way it is supposed to.

Last weekend I offered to make dinner for Rich and Kelly. I felt like hammered shit, so I bailed. I felt bad since no one in my family really does cobbler since my grandmother (dad's mom) died in 1994. Today I found the energy to make the cherry one he requested - I told him to pick a fruit and he chose cherry. I'll surprise him with it tomorrow morning as a thank you for taking me to the doctor. I'll bring a plastic fork. Something tells me that Kelly and the kids won't even get a bite. (Snicker) They ARE on diets, yanno. I thought about going ahead with the enchiladas since they are good for make-ahead and bake later, but then every inch of my body started hurting, so I skipped it.
The Good News? Now I'm craving breaded pork chops and brussels sprouts. I haven't been able to eat meat (and keep it down - even chicken) since before Christmas. We'll see how the new chemo trashes my appetite before I take a walk on that wild side. I might start with salmon.
:::fingers crossed:::

Huzzah! I have my motorbike back again A few weeks ago, on a surfing and biking break in Devon, I was enjoying a "spirited" ride (ahem ) when I tried to start an overtake, but found I had no power. I pulled over, switched off, switched back on again and was greeted with a loud bang-bang-bang from the engine and later found that my big end had gone (oo-err missus...) After some research, I found that the cost of fixing the old engine (including parts and labour) wouldn't be much less than getting a replacement engine fitted and so, after a lot of palaver and having to buy a new set of downpipes because the old ones had rusted in place) I've got it back now, but it's amazing what you get used to, because it now feels completely different. The new engine runs sweetly, the throttle is less choppy, the clutch smoother and whilst it as great to ride before, it now feels fabulous! Tomorrow I'll have to give it a proper test ride...

I just finished some general maintenance on the bike before a run tomorrow. I found a dead bird stuck between the rad and the exhaust. A few inches lower and he/she/it would have gone into the air intake. (Just the right size for it too.) Looks like a I dodged a bullet on last weeks run.

I found a dead bird stuck between the rad and the exhaust. Wow, that could have been a nasty issue!
I went out for a check ride earlier today and the bike is very sweet to ride. I'm glad I did, because the handling and responses are not quite what I'm used to.
It wasn't dangerous, but there were a couple of "ok, that wasn't what I expected to happen" moments and I'd prefer finding them out now, rather than in a couple of days when I'm loaded up with luggage and on my way to Devon!

Exhaust from both cylinders come across to the left hand side and then go beside the left hand radiator and down under the engine block. The air intake is directly behind the left hand rad.

Most of the spare parts that I've gotten have been from breakers yards or a very good copycat parts site that I've found in the UK. Because I can buy them business to business I get them tax free.

No real complaints for my BMW. I had a cam tensioner caused leak when I let the bike overheat. Otherwise, just the usual tires, headlights, brakes, and valve adjustment shims (it's a BMW thing). I just had the seat recovered because I wore the original one out.
I'm approaching 40k miles and it's been very reliable.
