Portsea Island (for those who don't know) is long and narrow north to south (left-ponders, think of eg Manhattan Island).
Southsea is in the middle at the bottom, which is definitely not on either "side".
The Matelot would have been unlikely to go to north east to the other side of the island (Copnor/ Hilsea) as he would have been coming from the Naval Base around the Portsea/ Landport area and there's much easier places to get to and back from.
If the girl lived in Southsea was going to a nightclub, she'd most likely go somewhere like the Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road or a place on South Parade eg the infamous Joanna's (if it was still there!)
There's no parks on any sensible routes that they were likely to take and 15 minutes walk would get them pretty much anywhere she's likely to live.
I know, I know, it's a lot of pedantry for what's just a joke, but when I'm sitting in the middle of the place being talked about...

Not a political cartoon. Just one of my favourite all time Bloom County Sunday strips that popped up on GoComics today. I remember howling when this one hit the papers. It wasn’t really part of a specific story line. Just BB having some fun and perhaps lobbing a shot across Apple’s bow in the earlier years. www.gocomics.com/bloomcounty/2021/01/11.

I'm reading the news about all the shenanigans going on in American politics and thinking -
The biggest criticism we seem to have of our politicians is either they have a Nanny who delivers leaflets for them or they enjoy a pint of bitter and a smoke!

The biggest criticism we seem to have of our politicians is either they have a Nanny who delivers leaflets for them or they enjoy a pint of bitter and a smoke! You mean apart from blowing £12 billion on a "World Beating" Track and Trace system that didn't work?
Or the £15 billion for contracts for PPE that were fast-tracked for people who were friends of Minsters, but the PPE was either overpriced or not fit for purpose?
Or the hypocrisy of the former Health Minister asking the Prime Minister questions about whether we had enough Nurses, when it was *his* fault that we don't have enough Nurses and health services are stretched to breaking point, because all those cuts were done on his watch?
Or the absolute brass neck of the Prime Minister saying that the footballer Marcus Rashford was doing a better job than the opposition of holding the Government to account over children being fed cut-priced and inadequate meals under a government scheme as if it wasn't the government's fault that a scheme that was working was passed over to a private company because the Government has an 80 seat majority and can do whatever the hell it likes in Parliament as nobody can vote down their schemes...?
Or is it just that the billionaire owned right-wing media and Tory controlled BBC doesn't want us to hear about these stories and distract us with fluff, so we don't criticise The Party?

Perhaps he found somebody on here didn't agree with him. I was just curious since he usually updated his blog every day. I was just worried that something might have happened to him.

A curious coincidence reminiscent of Siri or Alexa listening to you.
Our Plant Manager sent me an email asking me to update the forecast we use for production planning. “Customer ABC used to buy item 654321 but have switched from that to item 123456 (fake numbers used here btw). Can you more the forecast to the new item?”
The forecast is maintained in an Excel file and is imported and updated to the ERP software using an add in bit of software. The forecast file also lives on the file server only which was not in anyway involved in the email from our PM to me.
So I open a remote desktop to the server to edit the forecast file. Double-click it and Excel opens it. The file is 1,000’s of lines long. When I open it item 123456’s row is dead center in the screen. Pretty uncanny!
Most likely last time I had to edit anything it must have been in that vicinity in the file be some weird chance. But no way Alexa, Siri or Google had anything to do with this one.

What the heck are anti-vaxxers in LA doing blocking mass-vaccination sites? I mean kinda silly to be anti-vax in the first place but personal choice for you to spread disease to me if you want to but to actually try and stop people who want to get it from getting it? That’s just crazy?

Nothing but crickets going on here.
Remember when we used to chat about fun stuff?
Seems like if you want to get anyone engaged anymore you have to get political. Shame really.

I've spent the last half hour looking for prices and services on a drive thru car wash. The one I've gone to for the last 10 years installed new equipment and raised their prices. Basic car wash was $5 and now is $8 and it no longer includes an undercarriage wash. Old equipment got the topside cleaner too. What's a drive thru wash cost in your part of the world??

A lot more than that! Around $13 or more with the full treatment and that is only if you buy gas at the same time.

I can get a wash and wipe dry with vacuum for $13. I'm just looking for salt removal.
