A north African beating up a police officer. Living the dream. Well, that's one fine police officer. Given that she can admit that she was wrong and apologize to the people she hurt, unlike some.... Anyway, Tigers and Royals, and beer.

Why do women even want to box? Honest question. Really I don’t know why boxing is even a sport. I refuse to watch MMA too. There are lots of sports that involve sparring that do not put you at serious risk of a serious brain injury. If you participate in boxing you are asking to be punched as hard as your opponent can deliver. Marty-the major hockey fan, how can you say such a thing?

I repeat, If everone agreed with you, there wouldn't be this furore. You are putting words into my mouth. At no point did I call them transgender. At no point did I mention eugenics. I did state facts. Re-read my original post. It contains facts which are not disputed. No ignorance, no bullshit. You are just trying to pick a fight whilst waving your disability card. I am not interested in fighting you. Goodbye. Malcolm, you are a piece of shit and a coward. I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you. You said things that were wrong and I responded. You asked me what you were wrong about and I answered. You did not say "transgender" or "eugenics", but you did refer to this woman as "he" because of how she was born. And then, like you cowards always do, you try to turn it around onto me and you go, "I am not interested in fighting you. Goodbye." Moreover; why did you even ask me what you were wrong about, when Graham and Juli already filled you in?

I used to like boxing years and years ago. I miss the days of Ali, Frazer, Foreman, Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Tyson, etc., etc. I couldn't tell you any boxers today. I used to watch Hogan, Macho Man, Roddey Piper, etc. I know it was fake but entertaining. I have watched a few MMA fights but I don't go out of my way to watch any bouts. MMA is pretty brutal.

Tigers won by homerun in the bottom of the 11th. Very exciting game.

It's rare that I watch a boxing match, but I like the sport. There was a time when I wanted to be a boxer.
I workout on a heavybag and speedbag every day.

“I wasn’t trying to pick a fight”
“Malcolm, you are a piece of shit and a coward”
Hmmm, sounds like you are to me.
But I will not rise to your goading. You have never met me, you know very little about me. I am a Gentleman, as those on these boards who have met me in person would hopefully attest.
Rob, I don’t know which newspapers you read, but this is front-page news. It is being discussed around the globe. After Khelif’s quarter-final 300 journalists turned up at the post-match press conference.
You are trying to take a stance as if there is no other viewpoint. Whether you like it or not, there are very many people who disagree with you.
Now, if you would like to re-read what I wrote, at no point did I offer an opinion, I merely stated facts. You seem to object to me using “he/she”. Well I said that because of the fact ( note FACT ) that in a previous competition “ The IBA disqualified Khelif and stripped Lin of a bronze medal because "of their failure to meet the eligibility criteria for participating in the women's competition, as set and laid out in the IBA Regulations".
Now, I assume that I am somewhat older than you. You can play your 21st century gender / pronoun games all you like, but I don’t want to.
Stop trying to pick a fight and stop calling people you don’t know names. These boards are intended for the use of adults, please behave like one.

I do somehow like the odd fight in hockey and that is indeed slightly hypocritical of me. But boxing in general I never got interested in at all.

The IBA disqualified Khelif and stripped Lin of a bronze medal because "of their failure to meet the eligibility criteria for participating in the women's competition, as set and laid out in the IBA Regulations". As I have already pointed out, the IBA were suspended by the IOC for corruption and match fixing.
The details and results of their "Tests" claiming that Khelif "failed to meet eligibility criteria" have never been released, not even to the boxer or her trainers.
There is a good possibility that this whole issue is a Russian misinformation campaign designed to tarnish the Olympics as revenge for their team being banned from the competition because of their invasion of Ukraine.

Pirates blew two games against the Diamondbacks and lost ground in the wild card race. Meanwhile in the Olympics we watched some archery, woman's bicycling, track events, more swimming (I think swimming is done now), and some rowing. We watched men's field hockey, India versus Great Britain. India played a great game considering they were down a man for most of the game. India won in a shoot out. I never watched field hockey before but that was an exciting match. I would think the player's backs would hurt after playing a match. The medal count as of last night:

Malcolm is an eugenicist, a transphobe, a coward and a piece of shit. He will not acknowledge what you're pointing out because it debunks his misinformation. He ignored you and Juli, when you both had said it much better than I could have, and picked at me, when I had barely said anything initially, because I'm an easy target and he knew he could get to me. I think of how hurtful all this is to Imane Khelif. She is a woman and all these ignorant assholes are saying she's not a woman, because she doesn't fit their idea of normal. I'm ashamed that I'm associated with people who are taking part in this.

Fair point. I do somehow like the odd fight in hockey and that is indeed slightly hypocritical of me. But boxing in general I never got interested in at all. Even if those fights weren't part of hockey, I would still think hockey is a far more dangerous sport than boxing. You're zipping around at high-speed on solid ice, blades on your feet and a wooden scythe in your hand. I think more blood is spilt in hockey than any other sport. I saw the boxing match between France and Canada. France won. The sportsmanship both fighters showed at the end was awesome.

Malcolm is an eugenicist, a transphobe, a coward and a piece of shit. You are, of course, absolutely right. I have never told anybody this before, but when I was a child, I had a pet unicorn called Loretta. He wanted to have babies, but he couldn't because he didn't have a womb. So I shot him. How did you find out?

Rob if I’m not mistaken we have the same acoustic guitar. This is my old acoustic that I leave at the family cottage for anyone who wants to use it. I replaced it with a Garrison at home that I found by chance. Garrison is Canadian made (was, Gibson bought them) and during the Rush tour for the Snakes & Arrows album every acoustic in Alex Lifeson’s Guitar rack was a Garrison. I also have a Godin Classical Acoustic Guitar which is also quite nice. Anyway here is a pic of the Ilbanez.

Yeah, I think that's the same thing I have. Except yours looks to be in better shape. I expect mine will look something like Willie Nelson's Trigger by the time I'm 90, if I live that long. I call mine Black Beauty. It's my favorite out of all my guitars and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Was just playing it while I watched the USA and Brazil basketball game. USA won.

mank, why does that medal table appear in order of the total haul, rather than by Golds first? That's the normal, and indeed official, way.

Mal, so, are you saying that if, say, Italy's 26 medals were all golds, no silver nor bronze, they'd be in first place, even though they only had 26 medals total, ahead of teams with more medals over all?

Absolutely! Otherwise you are saying that a bronze and a gold are equivalent. This is the official table from the IOC website, as of now. Notice that Australia are above France and GB even though they have fewer in total. What if one country had one silver and ten bronze, and another country had ten golds. Would you say the first was better?

Pirates have lost 6 out of 7 now. Looks like they will never make the playoffs again. They have blown the last four games after taking the lead. The bullpen has been letting them down. I will still root for them but I doubt they will improve.
The Steelers play their first preseason game tomorrow against the Texans at home. Go Steelers! Which reminds me I have to do research for the four fantasy football leagues I am in. The drafts for each league is coming up soon.

No way we could. 2nd largest land mass, low population.
