Right, next question.
In my main home, I had a wired broadband connection through my landline supplier, BT. They are now charging me £250 a quarter for the landline, the broadband and a couple of their sports channels on the satellite service. I can live without the sports channels.
In my temporary home I have no braodband or landline, so I am running my Mac through my phone using the Hotspot feature. My phone provider is charging me £20 a month for all calls, all texts and 100 GB of data. Over the last two months I have used just about 50 GB in each. However, I am struggling to get other devices to work, such as my printer, TV and Windows laptop.
I would like to stop this landline/broadband service. Would it be relatively easy to set up a home Wifi Router that could accomodate all this hardware and get onto the web by using the phone? I am probably going to have to buy a new phone soon anyway, see above.

I would like to stop this landline/broadband service. Have you looked at switching provider?

It is said that Delaware was the first State to join the Union.
How can you be the first? Don't you have to be united with another?

Password managers? Good? Bad? What's a good one that's free?

I use Bitwarden mainly because it's free. I also keep a paper backup (just in case!) With so many logins and passwords it's just becoming a PITA to try and remember them all and to generate new ones for every new site.

I have a table in a spreadsheet that I keep them all in. The file itself does not have a giveaway name.

I use Keeper because it was recommended by a Data Security specialist that I know personally. It's not free because it has cloud backup and is accessible on multiple devices. Most of the free options don't offer any sort of backup. If the device you have the db on has a failure, you lose your data.

I use keepass because it's open source, free, and you keep your DB yourself. So I have my DB saved to a dropbox folder so that I can access it anywhere, and don't have to worry about device failure as mentioned above. I'm a little paranoid, so I don't actually know my dropbox pw. The dropbox pw is saved in the email account I know the pw to, and the email account's pw is not in the DB.

I also have memory jogging notes to remind me of a particular password, but, for those to mean anything to you, you'd have to know, for instance, what the code was for the combination lock I had for my first bicycle!

Automotive question: I have an 02 Chevy Cavalier with a blown head gasket. Car has 95,000 miles on it. I've gotten a quote for $1400 to fix it. The air conditioner compressor has been making rude noises the past two summers. My question is, do I fix the head gasket or try to find something else for around 2,000? Fixing the head gasket and compressor is not doable financially.

If you are going to replace it with another vehicle for $2K you could just be inheriting a lot of problems you don’t know about. Might be a question of “the devil you know versus the devil you don’t”? I can’t speak to any specifics to a model year/make ie do they have inherit problems that are more a question of when rather than if.

Can you get somebody who knows to have a look at the compressor and let you know if it is on the way out or just noisy. On the way out, start looking for another car. Just noisy I'd be inclined to tipple on.

According to Car-part.com, there are LOTS of junk yard near Clinton with AC Compressors for sale and they're tested to confirm that they're good before listing. They can be found for as little as $50+ core charges (they want your old part)
You can also find a replacement head for as little as $150. There's likely some machine work that needs to be done to the car if you blew the head gasket. That's where the bulk of the bill will be.
If it's me, fix the car.

I'm with Jim and I always find a mechanic that will use rebuilt parts if not good used ones. If you spend the value of your present car you still have it in good condition.

Teal deer: Any recommendations for credit cards with rewards programs, 0 annual fee, and preferably ones that aren't sponsored by problematic banks *cough*WellsFargo*cough*? My credit score is excellent and I pay over the statement balance, most if not all of what I've charged since the statement, so the interest rate isn't a real concern.
Long version: Back in 2016 I got a co-branded travel rewards card through a big bank, because rewards, and I was planning that massive trip. Last October, the co-brand decided to cease with big bank and partner with a smaller bank I'd never heard it, but okay. I have been dissatisfied with the smaller bank, they don't show your FICO score on the website, the website in general feels like it was designed around the turn of the century, and the card itself doesn't work at gas pumps at two of my usual gas stations (no one knows why). To top it off, when I recently tried to redeem my rewards for gift cards, there were broken links. I called the rewards partner in the FAQ, and was told they had ceased partnering with Comenity back in July. All of which joins together for me to really start looking for a new card.

That is heading my list. I had a Discover card 25 or so years ago, I wonder if the number is still active. I don't think I actually canceled it, just stopped using it.

I recommend Capital One. I use the Quicksilver card that pays back some percentage at the end of the year. It doesn't have any fees. Capital One offers various cards based on whether you travel a lot, or eat out a lot, etc. Those cards have a fee though I do believe. The Quicksilver card which I mentioned does not.
